All use Motorola 68LC040 . Apple also announced plans to provide PowerPC microprocessor technology upgrades for these systems in the future. The PowerBook Mobility Bundle Fact Sheet ----------------------------------------- This package is incorporated into the new PowerBook 500 series, and PowerBook Duo 280 models, and delivers the following capabilities: - Apple Remote Access Client 2.0. Provides a single entry point for users to launch applications - HyperCard Player 2.2. play HyperCard stacks - Calendar 1.0. keep track of appointments and create "To Do" lists. - MacCheck 1.0.5. hardware and software diagnostic utility PowerBook Product Specifications, Upgrades and Pricing ------------------------------------------------------ PowerBook 500 Series The four new PowerBook 500 models include the 520, 520c, 540, 540c (the "c" designates a color screen). 68LC040 processors running at 66/33 MHz or 50/25MHz (processor/bus speed) these new systems offer up to 36MB of RAM expansion and 320MB of hard drive storage. Apple plans to provide PowerPC microprocessor upgrades in the future. These new systems also feature a number of new technologies, like the all new Apple trackpad pointing device. With no moving parts, it provides a direct, reliable interface with precise cursor control. To enhance expansion capabilities, an optional PCMCIA expansion module is available on the 500 series for the first time, along with a processor-direct slot (PDS). For added communications capabilities, two modems are available for these systems, Global Village's 19.2 PowerPort/Mercury data/fax modem (U.S. and Canada), and internationally, the PowerBook 14.4 Express Modem II. For high-speed networking, built-in Ethernet has been added as well. The PowerBook 500 series models are available with either one or two nickel-metal-hydride batteries for extended life (up to seven hours on the 520 models). These new intelligent batteries have a built-in processor card designed to allow them to be easily monitored and efficiently utilized. The 16-bit, CD-quality stereo sound and presentation capabilities make these systems especially well-suited for multimedia purposes. Ranging from 6.3 to 7.3 pounds, the 500 series systems' total dimensions are 11.5 x 9.65 x 2.25 inches. The newly designed screens measure 9.5 inches on the diagonal and have a resolution of 640 by 480 pixels. The PowerBook 520 models come with either grayscale or dual scan color passive matrix displays, and the 540s are available with either active matrix gray or active matrix color.
