This can be used as a common information center for the group covering different aspects. The structure of this site should be evolving and adaptive to changing needs. We will start up with a certain initial configuration and then go from there. In the following the bare commands to use to get access and work with the directory. Mail more questions to Gottfried Mayer-Kress and I will collect them into a FAQ (frequently-asked-questions)-file. Version 2: Members of the Global Modeling Group - connect to a machine that understands the command "ftp" - type: ftp ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu - login as GlobMod - type the password that was sent out by Joseph Hardin - go to the members directory (cd members) - add your own directory type: mkdir where is your username. - go into your own directory cd gmk - add files about your work/interests etc. e.g. in my own directory I have: ftp> ls 200 PORT command successful. 150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for file list. gmk-cv.ps.Z gmk-pub-list.ps.Z gmk-ref-92-3.ps.Z gmk-92-7.ps.Z gmk.tiff my CV in compressed post-script format (gmk-cv.ps.Z) publication list and two recent papers in compressed post-script format a photo of myself in tiff format. In order to retrieve a file in compressed post-script format type bin get gmk-92-7.ps.Z on your own unix machine type uncompress gmk-92-7.ps.Z and you will get a file gmk-92-7.ps, that you can preview or print according to the conditions of your own system As member of the group, you can add files to anyone of the directories or create new directories. I would suggest that you submit your files in some archived + compressed format indicated by endings: .Z,tar, shar, lzh,uu (Unix) .hqx, bin, sit (Mac) .arc, zip, zoo (msdos) and don't forget the "bin" command, anytime you transfer any of those files.
