Asia-Pacific Chapter General Information ---------------------------------------- In 1993, a working group of professionals in the Asia-Pacific region was established by the organizers of the 1993 International Conference on Computers in Education (ICCE 93) to decide on the host country for the ICCE 95 conference. Further, it was decided that an Asia-Pacific Chapter (APC) of the AACE should be formed to promote educational technology research and development in the region and to organize future ICCE conferences. Thus, the APC was established and a constitution adopted. Objectives ---------- The APC objectives are to: * Enhance awareness and promote the conduct and dissemination of research employing the use of computing technologies in education both within and outside the Asia-Pacific region. * Encourage and support academic activities of AACE sub-chapters of APC member countries. * Obtain greater representation of active researchers from the Asia-Pacific region in the committees of related leading professional organizations and the editorial boards of reputable journals. * Organize and hold the International Conference on Computers in Education (ICCE) conference series in member countries of the APC. Sub-Committees -------------- Three sub-committees have been formed to oversee the major activities of the APC. Conference Sub-Committee: Chee-Kit Looi (Chair), Tak-Wai Chan, Gary Marks, Hermann Maurer, and Riichiro Mizoguchi. The roles of this sub-committee are to: (a) Oversee the development of the ICCE conferences. It will: invite bids for hosting ICCE conferences, vote and decide on the winning bid for hosting country (together with other members of EC) and comment on and endorse the budget and structure proposed by the hosting country. (b) Decide on the support or cooperation of APC to requests by other conferences related to Computers in Education held in the Asia-Pacific countries. Election Sub-Committee: Geoff Cumming (Chair), Yam San Chee, Setsuko Otsuki, and Zaidah Razak. The roles of this sub-committee are to: (a) Call for nominations and coordinate the elections of members to the APC EC. (b) Elect distinguished researchers from the region. Newsletter Sub-Committee: KSR Anjaneyulu (Chair), Guey-Fa Chiou, Jim M. Ng, and Parvati Rajan. The roles of this sub-committee are to: (a) Oversee the running of the APC Newsletter. The aims of the Newsletter are to: disseminate information about Computers in education activities in member countries of the APC-AACE and to act as a forum for communication between members of the APC. (b) Oversee the running of the APC Listserv. The aims of the Listserv are to: allow for electronic communication between members of APC and discussion on relevant issues and promote collaboration between researchers in the region.
