Editorial Objectives -------------------- AACE publications have the overall objective to advance the knowledge, theory, and quality of teaching and learning at all levels with computing technologies. The international readership of each Journal is multidisciplinary and includes professors, researchers, classroom teachers, developers, teacher educators, and administrators. Editorial objectives are to: * Serve as a forum to report the interdisciplinary research, development, integration, and applications of computing in education. * Contribute toward the professional development of all who seek in-depth yet practical knowledge about the important research results, latest developments and applications of teaching and learning with computers. * Present articles of interest on educational computing problems. * Provide creative ideas, practical strategies, and experiences on instruction with computers. * Offer information on various aspects of computer literacy for educators. * Provide information on new computer materials, methods of use, and evaluative criteria. Journal Content --------------- Contributions for all journals may include research papers, case studies, tutorials, courseware experiences, evaluations, review papers, and viewpoints. Educational Technology Review is the Association-wide periodical devoted to the issues and applications of educational technology to enhance learning and teaching at the college and school levels. Research articles should be directed to other AACE journals. The Review contains articles of general interest on educational technology, product reviews, official AACE member notices, and regular departments. Journal of Computers in Mathematics and Science Teaching offers an in-depth forum for the interchange of information in the fields of science, mathematics and computer education. Journal of Computing in Childhood Education serves as a forum and primary information source to report the research and applications on using computer technology in the education of children-preschool and elementary. Journal of Educational Multimedia and Hypermedia is designed to provide a multidisciplinary forum to present and discuss the research, development, and applications of multimedia and hypermedia in education. Journal of Artificial Intelligence in Education publishes articles that report the research, integration, and applications of intelligent computer technologies in education. Journal of Technology and Teacher Education invites articles on all topics related to the use of technology in teacher education and to instruction about technology in preservice, inservice, and graduate teacher education. International Journal of Educational Telecommunications serves as a forum to facilitate the international exchange of information on the current theory, research, development, and practice of telecommunications in education and training. General Guidelines ------------------ Material must be original, scientifically accurate, and in good form editorially. The manuscript should be informative, summarizing the basic facts and conclusions, and maintaining a coherence and unity of thought. Tutorial or how-to-do-it articles should preferably include a section on evaluation. Controversial topics should be treated in a factually sound and reasonably unbiased manner. The format of headings, tables, figures, citations, references, and other details should follow the APA style as described in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association available from APA, P.O. Box 2710, Hyattsville, MD 20784 USA. Preview ------- Manuscripts sent to the Editor for review are accepted on a voluntary basis from authors. Before submitting an article, please review the following suggestions. Original manuscripts received in correct form serve to expedite the processing and prompt reviewing for early publication. Spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, and the mechanical elements of arrangements, spacing, length, and consistency of usage in form and descriptions should be studied before submission. Pre-publication --------------- No manuscript will be considered which has already been published or is being considered by another journal. Authors should include a statement with their letter that the manuscript has not been published and is not under consideration elsewhere. Copyright --------- These journals are copyrighted by the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education. Material published and so copyrighted may not be published elsewhere without the written permission of the AACE. Credits and Acknowledgments --------------------------- Financial support for work reported or a grant under which a study was made should be noted just prior to the Acknowledgments. Acknowledgments or appreciation to individuals for assistance with the manuscript or with the material reported should be included as a note to appear at the end of the article prior to the References. Handling of Manuscripts ----------------------- All manuscripts are acknowledged upon receipt. Review is carried out as promptly as possible. The manuscript will be reviewed by at least two members of the Editorial Review Board, which takes usually no more than two months. When a decision for publication or rejection is made, the senior author or author designated to receive correspondence is notified. At the time of notification, the author may be asked to make certain revisions in the manuscript, or the Editor may submit suggest ed revisions to the author for approval. Authors wishing to have rejected manuscripts returned should enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope with submissions. Presentation ------------ Format - Submit original manuscript typewritten, double-spaced. Submit the original and three copies of everything-including duplicates of figures and tables if possible. Disk Format - If the manuscript was prepared on a Macintosh or IBM compatible personal computer, we prefer that a disk be sent with files in both the word processor used and the pure text (ASCII) file formats in addition to a hard copy. The word processor formats of Microsoft Word and WordPerfect are preferred. Please indicate the format on the disk. Receipt of a file will decrease both the chance of error and publication time for your article. Length - In general, articles should not exceed 30 typewritten pages. Long articles, or articles containing complex material should be broken up by short, meaningful subheads. Title sheet - Include a title sheet to precede the first page of the article. Give the title of the article, name of author(s), institutional mailing address (including department, institution, city, state, zip code, and country), or other affiliation. Include the e-mail address, if available, of the contact author. Number each page at the top. Abstract - An informative, comprehensive abstract of 75 to 200 words must accompany the manuscript. This abstract should succinctly summarize the major points of the paper, and the author's summary and/or conclusions. Citations --------- Examples of references cited within the texts of articles are as follows: (Williams, Allen, & Jones, 1978) or (Moore, 1990; Smith, 1991) or Terrell (1977). Quotations ---------- Quoted material of more than two lines should be set in a narrower width than the remainder of the text but continue to double space. At the close of the quotation, give the complete source including page numbers. Copy all quoted material exactly as it appears in the original, indicating any omissions by three spaced periods. Tables and Figures ------------------ All tables and figures must be submitted in camera-ready form (publication quality). That is, only original letter quality material or drawings may be submitted. Tables and figures should be prepared on separate sheets at the end of the running text. Indicate in the text where they are to be inserted. Number and type captions at the top of each table. Number figures in sequence. Photographs ----------- Photographs are welcome and encouraged. They should be black-and-white glossy prints. Write your name and identify the picture on the reverse side, using felt tip pen or grease pencil; captions should be typed on a separate sheet. Do not use paperclips on photographs. Terminology and Abbreviations ----------------------------- Define any words or phrases that cannot be found in Webster's Unabridged Dictionary. Define or explain new or highly technical terminology. Write out the first use of a term that you expect to use subsequently in abbreviated form. Mathematics ----------- Type carefully all such material. Use separate lines for and center each equation. If a reference is needed in the text, refer to it as Equation 1, etc. Use the solidus (/) for simple fractions to save vertical space. Program Listings ---------------- Program listings will appear with the published article if space permits. Listings should be publication quality. The brand of computer required should be included. Lengthy program listings (more than four 6 x 9 pages) can not be published, but may be made available from the author; a note to that effect should be included in the article. References ---------- References must be checked with great care. All references should be in alphabetical order by author (unnumbered), as shown below. Use the following style when referencing of a book or an article in a periodical: O'Shea, T., & Self, J. A. (1983). Learning and teaching with computers. Englewood Cliffs, NJ: Prentice-Hall Inc. Porter, R., & Lehman, J. (1984). Projects for teaching physics concepts using a microcomputer. Journal of Computers in Mathematics and Science Teaching, 3(4), 14-15. Post-publication ---------------- Upon publication, each author will receive a complimentary copy of the journal issue in which the article appears and an article reprint order form. Please submit the original and four copies to the appropriate address below. Send JAIE, JCCE, JEMH, JTATE, IJET, and ED-TECH Review articles to: AACE Editorial Office P.O.
