Introductions

 Attendees -- Brenda Bishop, Jessie Robinson, Maria Rodriguez, Alida Brown.

 Staff -- Jay Nemrow

 Everyone knows everyone.

Teen Pregnancy Coalition Report

 Maria talked with them by phone.  They say there is no money from them.  They can coach us on the process.  they will draft their recommendations to us and send by mail.  they asked about our teen center and suggest we bring together youth to make decisions about what the center needs to do.
Was the school involved?  they can help with how to ge the school more involved.

 They are going to have an on-line survey available and we could try to get the kids access to it.  We think we should look at it ourselves before advertising it.

 Alida thinks the Youth Center will likely shut down this summer.  No one has said so but this seems to be coming.

Dr. Reents Discussion

 Alida discussed the committee's thought to bring a curriculum into the schools (easily).  He seemed not to be unopposed.  Alida's suggestion was to bring some curriculums and possible funding to the administration.

 Discussion of "Reach for the Stars" curriculum.  It seems to be a high school program.

 We hope for help in finding appropriate curriculum for our circumstances.

 Brenda talks of how Extension introduced a curriculum straight to the teachers.

 We need to support what they are already doing make implementation easy.

 Discussion of making a powerpoint for Teen Pregnancy month.  We could take this to elks, kiwanis, etc.  Also make this into a PDSA cycle.  There was interest in doing this.

 Maybe for next year, we need to groom up kids to help us with outreach.  Brenda suggests having the meetings at the school or where the teens are.  We can do this first thing next year.

 We need to get some money to feed the teens we hope to bring next year.  This could be a part of  taking the Powerpoint to groups.

Any Personal Things to Do?

 Alida talks about ending the year June 1st.

 Brenda asks to spend one meeting reviewing what we have done.  Also, goal-setting for next year.

Upcoming Meetings

 Next meeting (4/15)-- finish up family planning work and present Powerpoint

 First May Meeting (5/6)-- review years work and complete hanging things.

 Second May Meeting (5/20)-- Planning for the next year.  Meeting places, times, and youth.

Homework

 Jay -- Get the Lanell Leatherwood woman on the mailing list.  Finish the Public Health Family Planning flowchart.  Get a fun pre/post test to do with the groups that get the presentation.  Send the old flowchart to Maria to make sure the consumer piece is in there.

 Jessie -- get the flowchart from Gail.

 Maria -- check on the NMTPC survey/quiz and report back with what it contains.

 Alida -- Get the Guttmacher power point for us.

 Brenda -- bring her computer & projector to the next meeting.

 Alida and Maria -- Hack together a preliminary powerpoint presentation.
