National Profile and Quay County Alida's inpression is that our isssues are very similar to the national issues. The time may have come to take national solutions and try to apply them here. Discussion. Mary Ann found a *ym magazine* survey that said that 51% of kids were abstinent. Discussion. Alida gives the four activities that seem to work best in teen pregnancy education: Sex and HIV Educaion Programs, Clinic services, Service Learning Programs, and Comprehensive Programs. As far as is know, we have only one possible service learning program (DECA). Gene really agrees with the first two and this was discussed. Also, discussion of Service Learning. Question: What do we want to do? Jessie expresses that it needs to work in our area. Geen suggests that we can get more action with clinical services. Everyone agrees. Mary Ann brings up that clinic services will only reach Tucumcari and perhaps Logan. Alida suggests flowcharting clinic services out in the county to see what is available and how it is accessed. *Decision: Have "affecting available clinical services" as our strategy.* Mary Ann suggests using "Alan's kids" to get information. Alida suggests that that group be used as a focus group to test our ideas on. Possible PDSA: Teen communication (Tabled) Mary Ann suggests using her newsletter for teens to give us a communication outlet to the youth. alida thinks it would be good to use that later in the process. Friday Meetings There are some kids from outside Tucumcari who we might have attend, so we have thought about having meetings on Friday. No one seemed to object. We decided to table this until we talk to let Mary Ann explore this with the kids and Jay discuss any conflicts with Mrs. Balzano. Jay will set day of next meeting based on feedback. NMTPC (New Mexico Teen Pregnancy Coalition) Is it time to get help and support from this group? They are offering technical assistance. Perhaps tell them where were are at and what we are doing. They may also have funding available and are very interested with working with community groups. Homework Alida -- Get research from Gutmacher on percentage of sexually active teens. Everyone -- talk to people we know about how they access family planning and begin gathering data. Maria -- get information from mom of two teens and the teens. will contact NMTPC and talk to them. Agenda: Report on Homework and NMTPC Share flowcharts Communication PDSA Friday Meeting PDSA Evaluation Jay needs to shut up with side conversations. Excellent meeting. Good committment for this. Our strategy is clearer: clinical services. We are missing team members!! There were good resources made available. We have never been this far before! We stayed on task. It made more sense to me! It helps to have an agenda and follow it.
