It was determined that the MOA did not cover any concerns about coordination of committee requests of the community. Susan reported that Dona Ana County is no longer providing Botvins training. Logan & San Jon Survey Results Documents were reviewed. Dee observed there does not seem to be the same spike at the 9th grade level that was seen in the Tucumcari responses. Request that Jay make some changes to the format: Report format for all three should be the same: “daily, weekly, monthly, etc.”; 12th grade is cut off the printout for Tucumcari, # of surveys not listed for 9th & 10th grade for Tucumcari. The group would like an inclusion of the % that the raw numbers represent for each response and, if possible, all surveys in one report. Discussion of House completion of the survey in the Fall. Question: How does this affect the committee’s recommendation to the Council? The following members will check with the schools for results of YRRS Survey given Fall 2003 - Alida—Tucumcari - Dee—Logan - Noreen—House - Alan—San Jon Review of the JPPO Referral Numbers Graphic representation of the monthly referrals to the JPPO Office for use of illegal substances was reviewed. Committee Accomplishments for FY 04 - Students active in committee work - Learning about work of other agencies and possible collaboration - Great progress in relationships with schools - Learned System Change process and it is being used in other venues. - Committee membership is appropriate for this aim. - Membership commitment and consistency. Committee Recommendations to the Council: - Requests that the Council discuss at September meeting the implications of committee requests to community; for instance, the schools. It seems that there is a possibility of alienating community partners with too many requests coming from too many directions. - Recommends that the school be asked to participate in only one survey and that is the statewide Youth Risk & Resiliency Survey. The committee feels that this instrument if valuable in its comprehensiveness and consistency, thereby allowing for tracking results and change over time. - Recommends that the Council consider making the request of state funders that they not require or request other surveys. Committee Internal Recommendations: - Concerns about defining and implementing the staff role in committee support. It seems to some that staff is overwhelmed with both note-taking and reporting on assigned tasks, thereby slowing down the meeting progress. - When we get started again, let’s look at the current substance abuse prevention system in Quay County. - Since we are a countywide committee, let’s be certain to schedule a meeting at least once a year in each of the outlying communities. Next meeting scheduled for June 23, 2004: 11:00 am ASAP Office.
