Nathan wants to diffuse idea among older people that youth are having problems. CHyouth says that adults also influence teen use. SMyouth says a previous survey identified that adults are a source of attitudes and substances. Discussion of how to spread this in the media. Alida suggests doing this with administration and school board. Is this a PDSA? Yes. How would we measure our effect? DO a PDSA on taking these survey results and presenting to Tucumcari administration and school board. Nathan was surprised that the highest use was among freshman and not seniors. Nathan asks the youth what can be done to reduce freshman youth. SMyouth and CHyouth suggest seniors and peers talk to them and have hands-on activities. Dee suggests role-playing transition to high school. candy says that they don't realize that they are doing this to fit in. They may be just like adults in thinking that everyone at the high school is doing it, so they do it. CHyouth says the freshman and sophomores now have more of their parties without seniors and juniors than before, and lose the more mature attitude about parties. SMyouth agrees. Gail asks if the ads on TV affect them. CHyouth says that they are ignored. DECA students work 15-29 hours a week. Noreen thinks about having DECA students be hired to do the Peer Provider Program in the schools. Some discussion of Project Northland and how it works with peers.
