They liked it but need some notice before activities for coordination. Jay set up a meeting with the Tucumcari High School for the G&N Show, but it was mentioned that the original idea was to meet only with a hand-picked group of teachers at each school. Jay will keep working on this. The Survey The three students on our committee were named "Student of the Month." This makes them eligible for "Student of the Year." Our student committee members reported on the survey results that they has collected. The survey results can be found "here":http://health.quix.us/mcch/subabuse/studentsurvey.html. It was found that there were a lot of exaggeration and some middle school students complained that this invaded their personal lives. PDSA cycle on the survey -- Should we do that today? Phil wants to look at these results and come back to this. Everyone agrees. Noreen talks abou the correlation between drug/alcohol use and domestic violence. Dee says it is important to focus on the schools and that this is where we have an impact. religous imapct is still important, but they don't have the kids as much as the schools. If we have a buy-in from law enforcement, this will affect things as well. Nathan talks about building the trust level between teachers and students so the young people will go to them for help. Edna and Dee talks about the need for counselors in the schools and the difference between a school counselor and other counselors. Nathan and Phil talk about having peers for young people to go to when thy have drug/alcohol/DV problems. There was a lot of discussion on peer leaders in the schools. Much Homework assigned. There was discussion on where young people get substances. Sandi reports another survey she did found that most get them from older relatives. Nathan talks about communication concerns that came out of the survey. he met many people who didn't have anyone to talk to or to respect their thoughts. Dee mentions that it was interesting that the students identified harsher punishments as something needed. This was discussed and SMyouth and RAyouth said that it was probably that parents need to be stricter with their children. A lot of Discussions on PDSAs and what we have already done that are cycles.
