When the British came, they showed them a different way of life, and the Kanaka Maoli were forced to give up thier religous and societal relationships, because the British told them about private ownership. They gave up thier spiritual belifs, and diminished to about 40,000 people. The ones today adapted to these things, without giving up thier beliefs, and excelled as a people and a nation.
