Timeline

 .0 -- Christ was born, strangely enough, **not** on Christmas Island.

 .1643 -- Christmas Island was discovered by William Mynors, on December 25.

 .1688 -- First men on Christmas Island, crew of Wiliiam Dampier, exploerer, beached on the rocks.

 .1872-76 -- John Murray explores Christmas Island, and makes record of it.

 .1888 -- Christmas Island settled.Clunies-Ross established a settlement near Flying Fish Cove, to collect food and timber to send back to Cocos Island.

 .1891 -- Clunies-Ross makes joint 99 year lease with England for thier mines that they put in when the Island was settled.

 .1895 -- Small shipments of the mineral phosphate arrive in England.

 .1897 -- Christmas Island Phosphate Co. in established.

 .1898 -- Laborers brought to Christmas Island from China, Sikh, and Euorope.

 .1942-45 -- Island occupied by Japanese.

 .1942 -- (World War 2) Japanese bombard Island, take the Euoropeans captive, and searched for the 1000 Maylays and Chinese that fled into the forest.

 .1943 -- Japanese unable to uphold Islands food source. Sent found prisonors to Indoneisia prisons.

 .1948 -- Mining Co. taken over by Austrailian government.

 .1949-58 -- Big expansion. Males from Maylay, Cocos, and Singapore come with wives and families.

 .1957 -- Austrailia buys the whole Island from Singapore.

 .1958 -- Territory Day, holiday for Christmas Island.

 .1958 -- Christmas Island act. (No info)

 .1970 -- Minors unoinistaion.

 .1974 -- Conservation officer hired.

 .1980 -- National Park is declared on the Egeria part of the Island. National Park now is 65% of the Island.

 .1981 -- New Mining Co. is itroduced

 .1991 -- Mine reopened.
 
 .1993 -- Million dollar Casino built.
