If I need a low level thing done, I reach for the one
thing that makes everyone scurry away:  Forth.

Forth si completely unlike everything else.  Those who
use Forth live in a different universe than other
programmers.  It is more like a religion than a language.
If you thought EMACS adherents were strange, you have 
never met Forth folks.

Forth was born in another time, long before GPL.  Most
Forth implementations are public domain and you can do with
them what you will.  The two listed here are not, both 
being semi-commercial, but offering free versions.
