*** ABOUT THE PROTEIN DATA BANK ***

Provision of this database is a service of the Protein Data 
Bank.  The PDB is an archival database of three-dimensional 
structures of biological macromolecules.  The database contains 
atomic coordinates, bibliographic citations, and primary 
sequence and secondary structure information, as well as 
crystallographic structure factors and 2D-NMR experimental data.
Information is available on protein, DNA, RNA virus and 
carbohydrate structures.  The database is updated quarterly to 
coincide with the mailing of the PDB newsletter.  The data are 
normally distributed in PDB format, which has become the  standard
for the field.

The Protein Data Bank is supported by a combination of Federal 
Government Agency funds and user fees.  Support is provided by 
the U.S. National Science Foundation, the U.S. Public Health 
Service, National Institutes of Health, National Center for 
Research Resources, National Institutes of General Medical 
Sciences, the National Library of Medicine and the U.S. 
Department of Energy.

*** ABOUT THIS WAIS SOURCE ***

The purpose of this source is to facilitate the quick 
identification and acquisition of information from the Protein 
Data Bank.  For this reason only information which may be of use 
in a WAIS search is included; the files are not in PDB format 
and do not contain any records beyond the CRYST1 record.  

To find out how to obtain full entry files, please consult the 
WAIS-retrievable files Whats_On_Tape and Access_Information. 
These and other files will be returned by using the search 
term <info>.

*** A NOTE ABOUT PRE-RELEASE ENTRIES ***

The objective of pre-release is to make pending entries readily 
available to the scientific community. These entries contain 
atomic coordinate data and a limited number of PDB record 
types useful in identifying the deposition. All other details 
will be provided when the standard release entry becomes available.

Pre-release entries may not fully conform to the specifications 
given in the Protein Data Bank Atomic Coordinate and 
Bibliographic Entry Format Description. For example, residue 
and atom names for heterogens may not be in the PDB standard 
format. Changes to these names may therefore occur when the 
standard release entry becomes available.
