If you were anybody at all in the cultural scene that was exploding in New York in 1965 you knew Edie. Edie Sedgwick had cachet. She came from that long, august line of New England Sedgwicks, whose firmament was illuminated by genuine brilliance but was often blighted by suicide and mental anguish. Edie's Face was everywhere. Diana Vreeland featured her in Vogue Magazine. She was in all the teenybopper rags. Her short hair, black tights, and great legs were always moving in a maelstrom of whirlwind activity, from limo to club to limo again, in an endless frenzied spiral. It was 1965. For a while Andy worshipped androgenous Edie. He made her a star. Warhol's "factory" provided a nucleus around which Edie and her entourage spun their high speed orbits, high energy particles soon to crash. Her face and style impressed everyone. Bob Dylan and Mick Jagger, riding the newest musical waves, intersected Edie's orbit. Everyone knew she was the real heroine of Blonde on Blonde. She was one of the many things that moved me, Bob Dylan, Jackson Pollack... The first time I saw Edie was in Vogue Magazine in 1965. You have to understand where I came from. Living in south Jersey you get connected with the pulse beat of what's going on through magazines.. It was all image.. She was like a thin man in black leotards, white hair and boat- necked sweater. She was such a strong image that I thought, "That's it." It represented everything to me, radiating intelligence, speed, being connected with the moment. - singer-songwriter, Patti Smith Edie's last starring vehicle was "Ciao! Manhattan", now a cult classic. The infamous Dr.Roberts, inaugurated the film by shooting up the entire cast with amphetamines for an orgy scene at a health club. Edie describes her activities in Jean Stein's Edie, ..an incredible sexual tailspin..every kind of sex freak from homosexuals to nymphomaniacs... Gobble, gobble, gobble. Couldn't get enough of it. Sex and speed. Wow. Like oh, God! A twenty-four hour climax that can go on for days. I'd like to turn on the whole world for a moment... just for a moment. I'm greedy. I'd like to keep most of it for myself and a few others, a few of my friends ... so that I'd radiate sunshine. And I'd like to see her rise again. - Patti Smith2 Edie's image lives on. An icon that has the power to evoke an era or inspire imitation. Carl Jung attributed to such images a kind of magnetic power to attract events, linking the future and the past through loops of meaning which cannot be explained by the accepted definition of causality. Edie's power to fascinate is demonstrated by her continual 'resurrection' in books and films. While working on this article, Oliver Stone's "The Doors" played on the TV unwatched. Suddenly, I looked up and there was Edie, gyrating amid a swirl of bodies on the screen - 10 seconds of Edie and we are back at the Factory, ca., 1967. Edie is gone. Andy wants nothing more to do with her. Viva has taken her place but she is not Edie. Jim Morrison, the latest avatar of the god of "Rock and Cock", is brought to the Factory to meet Andy who greets Morrison like the returning prodigal son. The camera focuses on a gold telephone, which Warhol picks up and holds out to Morrison saying: Edie gave me this phone, it's a God phone. ... She said I could talk to God with it. I don't have anything to say to God...This is for you. Now you can talk to God . The moment has a ritual intensity, as if Edie herself annoints Morrison as the next immortal living legend, and the God-phone a symbol of sovereignty. Jim and Edie become interlinked in a loop of meaning, a synchronicity, which has the power to cause events in the here and now. Changing the article to include this synchronicity entangled me in a strange loop of meaning. Edie's God Phone is a symbolic representation of a device and a new paradigm that could change our lives and our view of the universe. What we are talking about here is a universe designed and created from the future. In such a universe, things that seemed to be mere random coincidences, acquire new levels of meaning. becoming part of a new kind of "supercausality". Unhappy with the classical explanation of causality, because it left so many meaningful events in his life unexplained, psychologist Dr. Carl Jung coined the term 'synchronicities' which are meaningful coincidences. Thoughts and events sharing a common meaning are attracted to each other like magnets, across the seemingly impenetrable barrier of space-time; although there is no ordinary causal relationship between them, they are inextricably linked. End of Part I to be continued: mondo2.32.2: Jack Sarfatti (sarfatti) Wed 12 Aug 92 21:13 Part II Jung relates a story of such a synchronicity that occurred to him while conducting analysis with a young woman. "The night before coming to see him she dreamt that she had been given a golden scarab. Jung was sitting with his back to the closed window listening to her recount her dream when he heard a gentle tapping behind his shoulder. Looking round, he saw a small insect knocking against the windowpane. Opening the window, the insect flew in and he caught it in his hand. what he saw was a scarabaeid beetle, the closest equivalent to a golden scarab one could find in Switzerland. 'I must admit', Jung wrote, 'that nothing like it has ever happened before or since and that the dream of the patient has remained unique in my experience.' Jung kept coming across connections which 'I simply could not explain as chance groupings.'"3 Jung's intuitive rebellion against causality were encouraged by new developments in quantum physics. Jung studied physics with his patient Wolfgang Pauli4, in order to learn more of the nature of causality. Dissatisfied with what he learned, Jung concluded that the quantum theory must be incomplete. Many years later biological scientist John Lilly, famous for his work with dolphins, also found the scientific explanation of causality to be unacceptable. What he calls "cosmic coincidence control" and what Jung called "synchronicities" are an integral part of what Dr. Jack Sarfatti says "is the ordering principle of a superluminal (faster-than-light) universe." In a superluminal universe, what seems to be miraculous or impossible, becomes everyday. People remember the future. Famous cases of accurate dreams of the sinking of a ship or the death of a loved one will be explainable under the new theories being propounded at the leading edge of quantum physics. Becoming aware of Edie's image on my TV screen at the same moment I was writing about her caused me to alter what I was writing, because it seemed as if something was telling me to include Edie in the story. If true, this is the kind of future intervention that alters lives, often without our being consciously aware of anything happening. Sarfatti describes a synchronicity linking him with Edie and the Sedgwicks: "I was having another fight with my girlfriend Suky Sedgwick, Edie's sister. While waiting for Suky at San Francisco State library, I came across a book that had the name Sedgwick on the binding. The book was called Apology for Old Maids by Suky's grandfather, Henry Dwight Sedgwick. In an essay called 'House of Sorrow' ,there is a quote claiming that the future rather than the past is 'the home of explanation'. I was stunned. I had just read Sir Fred Hoyle's book The Intelligent Universe and had seen almost the same quote. Sedgwick's book was almost 80 years older than Hoyle's. I'd experienced yet another 'loop' in time." I should like to make an alarming suggestion...I suggest that we may actually be going badly wrong when we apply the usual physical rules for time when we consider consciousness! here is indeed, something very odd about the way that time actually enters our conscious perceptions...suppose there is something even vaguely teleological about the effects of consciousness, so that a future impression might affect a past action. Surely this would lead us into a contradiction. - Roger Penrose, The Emperor's New Mind What Penrose, a Royal Society Fellow at Oxford, is considering with some trepidation, is the complete overturning of our notions of cause and effect. The question is this 'Do we live in a superluminal universe or not'? Upon the answer depends the very nature of existence itself. A superluminal universe means final cause, or what we call God. A universe that is not superluminal is most probably random without God. End of Part II. Part III 3..2..1..Contact In 1952, Jack Sarfatti, now a physicist and designer of a quantum signalling device or God phone that will receive messages from the future, received a phone call when he was thirteen years old that changed his life. I was reading a book on computer switching circuits at home when the phone rang. I answered it and heard a strange sequence of clunking mechanical sounds. Then a metallic sounding voice comes on the line. A cold mechanical voice is the only way I can describe it. It gives a long series of numbers that I did not understand and then calls me 'Jack' and says it's a 'conscious computer on board a spacecraft.'. It may have said it was from the future, but I am not sure. However, that was the implication of what it said. Anyway, it says I've been selected to be one of '400 young receptive minds' to be part of a special project but that I must make the choice myself. The voice on the phone told me that I would begin to meet the others I was to work with in twenty years. I was scared and everything in me screamed to say NO! and hang up. I felt a strong jolt of electricity go up my spine to the base of my skull and I heard myself say YES. I was terrified and fascinated. The voice said 'Good, go out on your fire-escape and we will send a ship to pick you up in ten minutes'. When I hung up I ran like a bat out of hell and found my friend Winky, who is now a homicide detective in Brooklyn. We, and a few other kids, went back to my apartment to wait for the flying saucer but it never came. Years later, while Jack's mother, Millie was reading Andrija Puharich's book URI, she came across the account of Uri Geller's alleged contact by a conscious computer aboard a spacecraft which mirrored Sarfatti's experience even to the details. Millie, said to Jack, "This sounds just like all those phone calls you got when you were a kid." Sarfatti said, "I was stunned. I only remembered one phone call. I still only remember one call. Millie told me that there were many calls over a three week period. She said I was walking around glassy-eyed. Finally she picked up the phone and listened out of concern for me. She heard the cold mechanical voice. She told it to quit bothering me and stop calling. The calls stopped." End of Part III mondo2.32.3: Jack Sarfatti (sarfatti) Wed 12 Aug 92 21:44 OK Mondoids prepare for Contact! Here's the rest of it: What is this rough beast, its hour come round at last, slouching towards Bethlehem to be born. - W.B. Yeats, The Second Coming Albert Einstein, father of relativity and a deeply religious man, was never comfortable with the idea of a Godless, random universe. In 1953, almost 20 years after his famous EPR paper prohibiting "spooky" action- at-a-distance, Einstein admitted to his assistant, Ernst Straus, that he had second thoughts "You know I have recently lost confidence in the principle of no action-at-a-distance." Sarfatti explained that Einstein's 1935 paper showed that the Heisenberg Uncertainty principle could be violated without action at a distance. Since quantum mechanics is based on the uncertainty principle, it could not be considered a complete description of reality. The uncertainty principle asserts that certain physical properties (like energy and time or momentum and position) are incompatible with each other and cannot be measured to arbitrarily small precisions (statistical standard deviations) simultaneously in the same experimental setup. In plain language this means you can't change your tires and give your car a speed test at the same time. Sarfatti continued: "Einstein couldn't accept action-at-a-distance because that would violate causality. Causality means causes before effects. It stems directly from the way conscious beings experience the flow of time. Einstein's theory of relativity rested on two pillars, causality and symmetry. In 1935, Einstein believed that both pillars were essential for relativity. Today's experimental data shows that causality, the major stumbling block in the way of action-at-a-distance and superluminal communication, is wrong and that only symmetry is necessary for relativity." Sarfatti's eyes glow with intensity as he takes on the dubious task of explaining the forbidding subject of quantum mechanics to a non- scientist. "We don't need more math", he says, referring to the insistence of most physicists that useful faster-than-light communication is beyond our reach. "The current mathematical formalism is sufficient to show how we can decode messages from the future. Eberhard, Stapp, and Josephson all believe in action-at-a-distance, but say there's no way within standard quantum mechanics to locally decode such influences. I say they are wrong because of the counter examples I've developed which can be tested." Recent discoveries may have bolstered the case for a superluminal universe. The lead headline in the New York Times recently trumpeted, "Scientists Report Profound Insight On How Time Began," The large type and the picture were impressive enough but the latest computer generated pictures from the COBE satellite provide very strong confirmation for the existence of cold dark matter, the (as yet) invisible stuff which reveals itself only through its gravity and is now thought to comprise 90% of the universe. According to Sarfatti: "This mysterious dark matter, moving in the imaginary time of quantum gravity, may bring a brave new world of time travel through wormholes and starships roaming the vastness of interstellar space." The crux of the matter as far as superluminality is concerned is that the universe obeyed the laws of quantum mechanics at its birth subjecting it to Heisenberg's uncertainty principle when it was smaller than an electron. Hoyle and Sarfatti believe that it was at this primordial moment that consciousness from the future created the universe bringing itself into being. Einstein's work on relativity provided a starting point for intuitive physicists such as Wheeler, Feynman, Josephson and others. The new physics has also given rise to a new cosmology of which Sir Fred Hoyle is a leading proponent. Hoyle compiled a massive body of evidence in his book The Intelligent Universe that seems to strongly suggest that only a living and intelligent (superluminal) God could have created a universe where life (us) exists. The very conditions of the birth of the universe (the big bang) were specifically tailored to produce life. The Anthropic principle championed by Hoyle, Sarfatti and others was strongly supported by Brandon Carter, who in 1968 stated "Had the numerical values of certain fundamental constants (the speed of light, the mass of an electron etc.) been only slightly different - the universe would not be able to sustain life as we know it." Experimentalist Alain Aspect proved5, the reality of faster-than-light action-at-a-distance in an experiment on the quantum connection between pairs of photons6. Delayed choice experiments7 and gamma photon-proton scattering experiments8 showed that future causes do create past effects. Recent work by such respected physicists as David Deutsch, Kip Thorne, Yakir Aharanov and Sarfatti, involving time-travel, future-causality and other mind-boggling vistas, is invigorating superluminal physics as never before. Sarfatti's credibility among other physicists, like the superluminal conjecture, seemed for years to lay dormant in the barren soil of a conservative physics establishment. For many years, talk of faster- than-light communication and time travel has been beyond the pale of good science. It was a suitable subject for comic books and science fiction only, 'strictly kid stuff.' Sarfatti, a physics professor at SDSU in the sixties (while still in his twenties) suffered for his connection to this 'kid stuff'. He quit his job at SDSU and went to the University of London to learn from David Bohm who had worked with Einstein. Sarfatti then spent almost twenty years out of the 'academic' loop' of mainstream physics. Seemingly a genial character, with professorial mien and white goatee, Sarfatti is impulsive and temperamental, and infamous for burning his bridges in front of him. Bitter arguments with Werner Erhard and a perceptible rightward trend in Sarfatti's political thinking alienated him from the New Age 'establishment'. Sarfatti still harbors bitter feelings towards Gary Zukav, author of The Dancing Wu Li Masters for what he considers Zukav's "betrayal". "Zukav didn't know physics from shmysics. I brought him to Esalen over the strenuous objections of Michael Murphy's wife Dulce. I introduced him to everyone, wrote the chapter on quantum mechanics and then he reneged on his promise of a percentage of the royalties." Conflict and betrayal are part of the warp and weft of Sarfatti's life, as they are a part of his beloved Wagnerian opera " Parsifal". During his 'exile' he spent his time lecturing on time machines and warning of Soviet spies in the New Age movement over cappuccino's and vino in the Caffe Trieste in San Francisco's ragged Bohemia, North Beach. Sarfatti's former Cornell professor, Herb Gold mentions Sarfatti's North Beach seminars in his recent books Travels in San Francisco and Isles of Bohemia. The dictum that nature abhors a vacuum was certainly true for Sarfatti. He became friendly with some prominent local conservatives, among them neoconservative leader A .Lawrence Chickering9 and movie magnate Marshal Naify.10 "The three of us were having lunch at Enrico's in North Beach. Suddenly Naify launched into a monologue describing the future Star Wars program in what turned out to be astonishingly accurate detail. It was an amazing performance." Sarfatti said. "Even more astonishing since Naify was not involved in the sciences and no one was talking about anything resembling Star Wars in the media at that time. Chickering was so impressed by the idea he asked me to give a scientific summary of what Naify had outlined. The summary was sent to Paul Nitze, Reagan's chief nuclear weapons negotiator. Chickering told me Nitze liked what I wrote. I talked about rendering nuclear weapons impotent and obsolete. A channel to Cap Weinberger had opened up through his son, Cap Jr. I sent him all the same material, which reached Reagan through his father, the Secretary of Defense. The physics was questionable, but it made good psychic warfare against the Soviets. We bluffed the Soviets and won the Cold War without a nuclear holocaust." A fervent believer in synchronicity and in himself, Sarfatti made numberless versions of God Phones or "Future Machines" - many of them wrong, he admits. He fired his salvos to colleagues all over the world. Feynman believed he had gone crazy, and he certainly wasn't alone in that belief. Mostly they reacted bemusedly when his name came up. A few had sterner reactions. Henry Stapp, of Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, who carried on a ten year correspondence with Sarfatti, wrote an angry letter to the Editor of Physics Essays that Sarfatti was incompetent for insisting that faster-than-light communication was possible in standard quantum mechanics. More than ten years ago the late Heinz Pagels, a highly respected professor at Rockefeller University and President of the New York Academy of Sciences, shouted at me on the telephone that Sarfatti was "a charlatan" for his belief in action-at-a-distance. "Sarfatti was crazy", who was he to sweep aside causality with a wave of his hand. Pagels held Sarfatti in bad odor because, in addition to his support for action-at-a-distance, he worked on precognitive remote viewing with New Age people from Esalen11, such as Uri Geller and Andrija Puharich. Esalen would also serve as the place where the "Hot Tub Diplomacy"12 of the early 80's took place. Something rather chilling occurred a few years later. Pagels dreamt of mountain climbing (he was an expert climber) and falling to his death. So shaken was he by the dream's vividness that he told his friends and even mentioned it at the very end of his book, The Cosmic Code. I dreamed I was clutching at the face of a rock but it would not hold. Gravel gave way. I grasped for a shrub but it pulled loose, and in cold terror I fell into the abyss. Suddenly I realized that my fall was relative; there was no bottom and no end. A feeling of pleasure overcame me. I realized that what I embody, cannot be destroyed. It is written into the cosmic code, the order of the universe. Not long afterward, while on an undemanding climb with friends, he slipped and fell to his death. Had Pagels experienced a genuine precognition? That was something that he just knew was impossible. Yet it consumed his attention until he slipped and fell on a climb that was regarded as easy, safe even for a less experienced climber than Pagels. Sarfatti has no doubt but that Pagels had a first hand experience with future causality. Many people, he says have a strange blindness to this kind of thing. In some way Pagels believed and accepted his precognition as part of his cosmic destiny as we can see from a closing quote in The Cosmic Code: "But it seems certain that the recent human contact with the invisible world of quanta and the vastness of the cosmos will shape the destiny of our species or whatever we may become." And, as Sarfatti points out, "The invisible world of the quanta obey the superluminal dictates of the future." A shout in the street. From the play field the boys raised a shout. The ways of the creator are not our ways," Mr. Deasy said. "All history moves toward one great goal, the manifestation of God." Stephen jerked his thumb toward the window, saying: - "That is God. Hooray, Ay, Whirree!" - "What?" Mr. Deasy asked. - "A shout in the street." Stephen answered, shrugging his shoulders. Now that's really a coincidence...Coming events cast their shadows before. - James Joyce, Ulysses Long orphaned by science and most philosophy, teleological superluminality has found a home in drama, religion, literature, and in film. Joyce's Ulysses is a treasure trove of Jungian synchronicities, which may be acausal loops-in-time that employ the future-to-past time sense. Joyce uses such seemingly random recurring events as a shout in the street, the wanderings of a crumpled piece of paper, the pealing of church bells, to order time through loops of causality. The inner geometry of Ulysses is not the geometry of billiards and of Newton. It is the strange inner geometry of Einstein and quantum mechanics. Causality seems to slide along this strange geometry like a roller coaster at an amusement park. Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five also reflects the strange geometry of future causality: The planet Tralfamadoria which exists in the future creates a civilization on earth so they can get a part they need for one of their spaceships. Just as the Greeks in Romans used the Deus Ex Machina to provide for a superluminal Voice of God. Chris Marker, in the highly acclaimed film "La Jettee" creates an eerie warring world of the future, that makes captives of people in the past to experiment on them. In "The Navigator" a young man leads his people from the plague-ravaged 14th century to the 20th century to find a cure for the mysterious disease that is decimating them. In the Sci-Fi genre, Sarfatti's fellow physics graduate student at UCSD, Gregory Benford, weaves a chilling tale of a doomed future earth in Time Scape. In the story, scientists send warnings to their colleagues in the past to save the planet. Phillip Jose Farmer's Riverworld series which includes practically everything that ever lived, requires future-to-past causality as well. And of course, we can't forget "The Terminator" or "Back to the Future" and "Peggy Sue Gets Married". Turning and turning within the widening gyre. - W.B.Yeats, The Second Coming Merging the ostensibly separate meanings of God and Machine, Edie, perhaps unconsciously, linked herself to a turn of thought and intuition that has its branches in antiquity and its roots in the far distant future. From the ancient stories of the Greek gods to the cyber-punk of today's Science fiction, people have taken for granted the existence of a superluminal reality. Almost all of us have experienced this firsthand. For example, invariably, when I call my mother, she will say, "That's funny I was just thinking about you." How many times have you thought about someone, suddenly, perhaps after a long period of time when you hadn't thought of them at all. Soon, sure enough, you see them in a day or two. then you know that you've just touched the mystery. Precognitive incidents like these have always suffered from the taint of impossibility, just like UFO's, although admitting to a dream that proves to be true or having had a precognitive experience may be less embarrassing than claiming to have seen or been aboard a UFO. Deus Ex Machina Deus ex Machina' or the God from a machine was originally used in ancient Greek and Roman plays, a device was brought on stage to intervene in the action of a play when conditions were in extremis; when the situation was such that only supernatural intervention could save the day. Jack Sarfatti thinks that his article "Design for a Superluminal Signaling Device"13' may lead to nothing less than a Deus ex Machina. Both he and Heinz Pagels' close friend, Nick Herbert, have spent years trying to develop God Phones which decode and utilize precognitive messages from the future. Sarfatti emphasizes "This is not the same as predicting the future. This is getting information from the future. This is the defeat of chaos." Sarfatti's goateed visage looms out from under a Greek fisherman's cap as he proclaims: "Prediction of the future from the past is part of the classical causality axiom, yet it is not really supported by the evidence. In quantum mechanics both the future and the past co-determine the present." The increasingly likely establishment of a superluminal world-view cannot be credited solely to an individual, or even to the sciences. Future-cause and past-effect has been an intrinsic part of the scientific, cultural and religious inheritance of the human race. Since ancient times scientists have tried to model the universe within their cultural and religious contexts. According to Sarfatti, Pythagoras,14 Newton, Einstein, Planck and Heisenberg, "are the Illuminati who receive knowledge from the future God that is bringing our universe into being." Quantum mechanics is illuminating a trail which may lead to the roots of consciousness itself. Indeed, at the quantum level our own brains may be mirroring the quantum processes which occurred before the Big Bang itself. As above so below, says the ancient mystical truism, and now quantum physicists are echoing that sentiment. Recent work done at the leading edge of molecular biology supports this conjecture. With state Christianity in the Roman empire came dogma and a strategy of repression and elimination of views that differed. Speculation on the nature of the universe was discouraged by the Church Fathers. For nearly 1,000 years, science remained stuck in an ancient rut. As the renaissance dawned, however, scientists fought a mostly losing battle to be free of the constraints of religious tyranny. Marlowe's Faust is an allegory of scientific man's rebellion against the tyranny of Church authority. The careers of Bruno15 and Galileo amply illustrate the difficulties of that struggle. Over hundreds of years the work of Copernicus, Newton and Descartes eviscerated the Church's authority. Such literal Biblical teachings as creationism are taught only as a relic of religious thought rather than as valid theories of how the Universe comes into being. God-in-the-Machine is now just the voice of the machine. Anyone accepting the literal word of The Bible as truth in today's secular world would be considered a credulous fool by many secular westerners. Since the beginning of this century, physicists have gone by speculation and experiment where few can follow. Most of us must accept the claims of scientific authority as we once accepted the validity of religious dogma. Some scientists claim (just as many ancients must have done after observing a phenomenon they could not explain) that they can see the "handwriting of God" in some of the recent pictures from the COBE satellite which show the universe at a very early age. Sarfatti's Hyper-History Sarfatti suffers no embarrassment about his claims of a superluminal connection to all kinds of historical figures. In 1978 Sarfatti was suffering his idyll/exile in North beach, orphaned by the New Age Movement after his bitter falling out with Werner Erhard. He met someone who, according to Sarfatti, clarified the historical context he was in. He feels trapped in a time loop of causality reversal that connects him to such world historical figures as Hitler, Mussolini and FDR. "Sitting on the terrace of the Savoy Tivoli, I was introduced by a friend, Leila Minturn Dwight,to an aristocratic-looking young man dressed in Lederhosen, the Bavarian national dress. He was Egon Sedgwick Hanfstaengl. Leila said he was her cousin but it didn't mean anything at the time. I didn't know that Leila's family had intermarried repeatedly with the Sedgwicks for 200 years. I had never even heard of the Sedgwicks at that time. At the time I met him I hadn't yet met Suky Sedgwick. He said something about his family being involved 'in history' but he didn't say what. These connections were made clear to me years later when the book Edie by Jean Stein and George Plimpton came out. Francis Ford Coppola had invited me to his house to meet Hans Syberberg and see his film 'Our Hitler'. Syberberg's film casts Putzi in a central role. I had also written a radio program 'Hitler's Last Weapon'. I was not aware of all of these Phillip Dickian connections16 until years later." Hanfstaengl was a cousin of Edie's and the grandson of Ernst "Putzi" Sedgwick Hanfstaengl. In 1904, Putzi spent hours in the basement of Teddy Roosevelt's White House with his cousin and Harvard classmate, Frank (FDR) playing the piano in the boisterous, somewhat oafish style, that his friends loved. In 1920, Putzi was playing piano to a captive audience in Munich. His new friend Adolph Hitler was in a hypnotic and joyous reverie listening to the music of his beloved Wagner. Putzi and his American wife performed a valuable service to the future Fuhrer. They arranged gemutlich little musical evenings with many of the prominent figures of post WW1 Germany for Hitler. They smoothed his rough edges. They eased his way into the upper circles where the spirit of unrepentant revanchism burned undiminished by defeat. In 1923 at Putzi's Tyrolean Villa, the distraught Hitler was in disgrace; his Bavarian Putsch was broken and he was about to be arrested for treason. The police were banging on the door and would soon be coming up the stairs. All was lost; but for the timely intervention of Putzi's wife who altered history forever when she wrestled the loaded pistol that he had pointed at his own head from him. Sarfatti claims that the hand of destiny that saved Hitler, also altered his own life. Saying that historical themes tend to recurr in within certain familial "Destiny Matrices", Sarfatti sketched out a nonlinear history of his clan. In 1923, Margherita Sarfatti17, was the lover of Benito Mussolini, and later was patroness of the fascist cultural movement, Nouvocento, (New Century) which expressed a belief in the philosophy of future cause. She was the mother of one Italy's WWI heroes, Roberto Sarfatti, killed at the age of eighteen at Mussolini's side in the trenches. Roberto was later enshrined as one the immortals in the fascist pantheon. Samuel Sarfatti was the personal physician to Pope Julius II and he was instrumental in getting Michaelangelo to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.18 "Sarfatti" means "the Frenchman" in Hebrew and traces back to the great Rabbi, Rashi de Troyes (1040 - 1105) advisor to Godfrey de Bouillon who led the First Crusade to Jerusalem. Sarfatti sees himself linked in meaningful causal loops with many historical figures. "This historical context is not my creation", he says, "but a recurrent theme over hundreds of years that expressed itself in the lives of real people, who happened to be my family and Suky's family. Just like I happened to get that phone call. We were brought together as players in a scene written in the far future." He is not the only one to see himself this way. Sarfatti and his superluminal physics are portrayed in Robert Anton Wilson's Illuminatus Trilogy. Carlos Suares, a cabalist mystic and intimate of Henry Miller annointed Sarfatti to be the "heir" to his tradition. "I didn't know what he was talking about at the time. But he was a Cabalist Master who knew a great deal more than I about the significant role some of my relatives played in Jewish history." Fictionalized as Balthazar, in Lawrence Durrell's Alexandria Quartet, Suares urged Sarfatti to "smash the wall of light.", which Sarfatti sees as one and the same as Einstein's light barrier. "I saw myself as a Parsifal19 character. I reached the Grail Castle and didn't know what I was doing there and I didn't get the Grail. But I got the challenge to 'smash the wall of light' and that's what I'm trying to do." Since the publication of his latest paper in a prestigious physics journal and his reestablishment of ties with academics at Berkeley, Sarfatti's credibility seems to be rising phoenix-like from the ashes. It was at Berkeley in Ray Chiao's quantum optics seminar that Nobel Laureate Charles Townes was told by Chiao that a paper by Sarfatti some twenty years previously had helped them in their research. At another seminar, David Mermin, head of the physics department at Cornell, told the group that he had read Sarfatti's paper and had been perplexed because he couldn't find anything wrong with it. He finally realised what was wrong but he he said he couldn't remember. Sarfatti says the seminar broke up in laughter. His most recent salvo against the fortress mentality of the physics establishment is a paper he believes will invalidate Phillippe Eberhard's proof against communicating useful messages from future to past. With the help of modern technology man is extending his intelligence out into into the vast reaches of space and down to the mysterious level of quantum phenomena. In the worlds of art and science, ( which seem to uncannily mirror each other) there has long been dissatisfaction with the theories and dogmas which leave far too much of our real world unaccounted for. Sarfatti sees this as a 'vacuum of reason' which he like nature abhors. What I'm after is simple. I want to prove the existence of God and a superluminal universe created from the future which created us so that the universe could itself be created. Let's not play games and stand on high horses when it comes to radical advances in thought. Let experiment decide. If it doesn't work then we've still learned something. 1 arguably Dylan's greatest album 2 from the poem "Edie" written on hearing of Edie's death. 3 Breaking the Time Barrier, Danah Zohar 4 discoverer of the Pauli exclusion principle and the neutrino 5 at the University of Paris in 1982, 6 quanta of light 7 Carol Alley of the University of Maryland 8 Charles Bennett of Lawrence Livermore Laboratory 9 Cofounder with Ed Meese and Cap Weinberger of the San Francisco Institute for Contemporary Studies "Reagan's favorite Think Tank" 10 Stephen Schwartz introduced Sarfatti to Contra Arturo Cruz Jr at Carlos Beya's house in Bolinas. 11 a resort near Big Sur in California, famous for sixties style sexual experimentation and lectures promoting a New Age of enlightenment. Padwa was looking for George Gamow's out of print autobiography My World Line. He found the book right after meeting Sarfatti and then immediately found Sarfatti's picture on the cover of North Beach Magazine. Copyright 1992 The Parsifal Effect It's 1952 in Flatbush. Gee! - mechanical relay switching circuits for the Einiac computer - what a great shiny book I got from the big library on Eastern Parkway. The telephone rings. I pick it up. I hear curious clanking mechanical sounds like relays clicking. A distant cold metallic voice speaking numbers gets louder. "Who are you?" I ask. "I am a conscious computer on board a spacecraft from [memory failure]. We have identified you as one of four hundred young bright receptive minds we wish to [memory failure]. You must give us your decision now. If you say yes, you will begin to link up with the others in twenty years." My adrenaline was rushing. I was scared but thrilled (i.e., a quantum superposition of feelings). This was no joke from my friends. I thought "NO!" in a silent scream that seemed to echo down the corridors of time. I felt a tingle of excitement start at the base of my spine ending at the base of my skull. I heard myself say "Yes!". Then, I heard the metallic voice say: "Good, go to your firescape. We will send a ship to pick you up in ten minutes." I slammed down the phone. I imagined that a murderer would come down the roof to the firescape to get me. But I knew it was weirder than that. The monsters finally announced themselves. I ran into the street faster than you can say "Who killed Jack Robinson." I met my friend Winky 1 and a few other kids and told them what happened. We went back up to my apartment and waited. Nothing ever happened. Twenty years pass. It is early 1973. I am at San Diego State with Fred Wolf 2 I get a message that someone I don't know named Fritjof Capra 3 is on campus to see me. I had recently returned from the University of London's Birkbeck College where I was an Honorary Research Fellow in the Physics Department under Professor David Bohm 4. Fritjof said he had heard in London that I had "interesting ideas"5. He was very charming and invited me to stay with him if ever I got back to London. Fred Wolf's6 zany high school buddy from Chicago Bob Toben showed up. He was all excited about Uri Geller Bob said he had money to do a book and TV show about Geller. He wanted Fred and me to serve as technical consultants. I then got a telegram from Abdus Salam 7 inviting me to the UNESCO International Centre for Theoretical Physics8 in Trieste, Italy. I also received a travel grant from the National Science Foundation9. Oddly enough, Fred Wolf10 also received invitations to teach both at Birkbeck College of the University of London and at the University of Paris. Like Bob Hope and Bing Crosby in the movie On the Road, both Fred and I were unexpectedly on our way to Europe. Bob Toben said he would join us in Paris where Fred would be based. Fred Wolf showed me the very short French film La Jettee which was about time travel loops. It had a kind of mini-Terminator plot. I then went to the University of California at Santa Cruz for a two week seminar in high energy physics. Helen Quinn 11 and I went to a campus showing of Jean Cocteau's surrealist film Orphee which, like La Jettee, had a very powerful effect on me. I was particularly taken with a scene in which three motorcyclists in black leather jackets run down Cegeste, take him through a mirror to the seductive woman in black. It was the summer of 1973, I prepared for Europe with my girlfriend, Sharon Allegra Moore 12. We were at her mother's house in Carmel Valley, California. I opened up the Sunday Magazine of the San Francisco Chronicle and found an article on Stanford Research Institute's psychic research with Uri Geller. I telephoned SRI and spoke to Brendan O Regan 13. Brendan seemed to know of me and invited me to SRI. I arrived the next day and spent an intense seventeen hours with him. He introduced me to Edgar Mitchell14, to Hal Puthoff, Russell Targ,15 and other people connected with the project. I mentioned my experience with the alleged conscious computer on the spacecraft from the future in 1952 and Brendan said "Oh yes, I have seen data on several hundred incidents of that kind." Brendan asked me to do him the favor or introducing him to David Bohm and John Hasted of Birkbeck College. He said that he wanted them to test Uri Geller's psychic powers. I had Fred Wolf do so. This led to the Birkbeck tests of Geller in the spring of 1974.16 Sharon and I stayed with Fritjof Capra17 in London for a few days before moving on to Paris. My French friend Michel Roure 18 housed us in a friend's flat near the Ecole Militaire at the edge of the Champs de Mars opposite the Eiffel Tower.. We awoke early next morning and went sight-seeing at Pere La Chaise cemetery. The mist was rising from the dewy grass. I came upon a procession of Gypsy women. I walked away from Sharon and Michel to follow the procession. The women stopped in front of a grave with a very fine quality statue of a head. They placed garlands of freshly cut flowers around the neck of the head. I had no idea of the Orphic meaning of this elaborate ritual. I looked at the inscription "Dr. Alain Kardec" 19, D. 1869" The eyes of the head20 of Kardec suddenly came to life glowing intensely from reflected sunlight nearly blinding me. I thought, and where these thoughts came from I do not know, "Why are these women putting flowers on your neck. They should put flowers on my neck! You old wizard, you're not dead yet. I challenge your power!" I heard music from the finale of Mozart's Don Giovanni in the scene where the walking statue of Donna Elvira's murdered father comes to claim revenge from the Don. My occult reverie was broken when Michel called out to me to come away with him and Sharon. Night came with a full August moon. Sharon, Michel and I took a long walk from a party near the Bois Bologne back to the Champs de Mars. It was about two in the morning when we arrived at the base of the Eiffel Tower. Michel and some friends split off to the left. Sharon and I started to walk on the path. We had not gotten very far before I heard the sounds of motorcycle engines behind me. I turned and was temporarily blinded by three motorcycle headlights. I could see that there were two men in black leather jackets on each of the three motorcycles21. I grabbed Sharon and we quickly walked off the path on to the grassy field of Mars. The motorcyclists followed slowly and began circling us. I noticed a young couple making love in the grass. Sharon and I started to run towards them. One motorcycle broke away from the circle and came right for us. The passenger had a rubber truncheon. He walloped me on the back of my left shoulder the way a Zen Master might.22 All three motorcycles sped off quickly. They made no further attempt to rob or harm us. I cannot remember when the connection to the scene in Cocteau's Orphee hit me. It would be years later that I learned that the symbol of the Knights Templar23 is two Knights on the same horse and that my alleged ancestor Rashi de Troyes24 (1040-1105) played a role in their formation. Christmas of 1973, I am back in Paris staying with Fred Wolf near the Odeon in the former apartment of the Marquis de Sade. Fred's roommate, a journalist with The Economist was away interviewing Sadat in Egypt. Fred and I had to share the same very large bed because his roommate did not want any one staying in his room. One night a young woman from upstairs knocked on the door. Fred25 let her in and she proceeded to make love to the two of us. Bob Toben arrived in Paris. We spent most of our time writing Space-Time and Beyond in the Cafe Deux Magots. Fred was distraught over some woman, was very manic and could not concentrate. So I wrote most of it26. Suares lived in a penthouse at the edge of the Champs de Mars only a few meters away from my Cocteauesque encounter with the motorcyclists a few months earlier. Suares, a Spanish Jew born in Alexandria, Egypt, was a student of the Cabala27. He was a close friend of Krishnamurti Bob took us to see the eighty four year old Carlo Suares 28 and his wife Nadine29, Suares's circle included Krishnamurti, Henry Miller, Anais Nin, Aldous Huxley and Lawrence Durrell30. Durrell bases the character of Balthazar in Alexandria Quartet on Suares. Suares lectured us on the Cabala in several meetings. I could not follow him very well but Fred Wolf seemed to recover from his angst and got deeply involved with Suares. I did understand that Suares31 thought that Genesis in The Bible was really a cosmic code for physicists. Suares had met Bohm through Krishnamurti. Oddly enough, Suares with piercing eyes like the head of Kardec and like Yoda initiating Luke Skywalker in "Star Wars" suddenly put his hands on my shoulders saying: "You do not understand yet. You are the Heir to the Tradition. You will not come into your power until you are with the woman and the child. You will smash the wall of light!" I have not yet met the woman and the child. The Einstein barrier for the motion of matter is the wall of light. My new physics does smash this wall in three distinct ways. The first is by communication without energy propagation using the quantum spin connection beyond space-time. The second is superluminal propagation of energy by short wave tachyons in real time. The third is transluminal propagation of energy by long wave Euclideons in Hawking's imaginary time. I shall explain these ideas later on. I continued to commute between Trieste and Paris on the Semplon Express all through the winter and spring of 1974. One of my side trips took me to the house of a lady friend of Robert Graves32 in the village of Lluch Alcari near Jacob's Tower on the island of Majorca. The atmosphere of the place is heavy with the presence of the Magus. I experienced the feel of ancient times. I linked up with Brendan O Regan in London. Brendan asked me to write a paper on physics and psychic phenomena for the journal Psycho-Energetic Systems (Pergamon33) that he had some connection to. I quickly scribbled some dribble with a pencil and gave it to O Regan. He rewrote it and published it in my name. The paper appeared after the Geller tests. David Bohm did not like what I wrote and he wrote a rebuttal to it with Basil Hiley. To paraphrase Nietzsche, a great man must choose great enemies. Uri Geller told me, "I don't care what they write about me as long as they spell my name right." O Regan and I were at Cambridge attending a meeting on psychic research sponsored, if I remember correctly, by Ted Bastin's group of new age physicists and computer scientists. Nobel prize physicist Brian Josephson34 was there. After the meeting a sprightly Englishman walked up to me and introduced himself as Dennis Bardens 35. He said: "Dr. Sarfatti, may I take you to dinner?" Fred Wolf was there and he suggested I go with Bardens. We had a good dinner of duck in cherry sauce at the Blue Boar Inn. After dinner, over brandy and cigars, Bardens leaned towards me with a conspiratorial wink and said: "First, I want you to know that I am a cabalist." After a dramatic pause he continued in a more officious tone: "Dr. Sarfatti, it is my duty to inform you of a psychic war raging across the continents between the Soviet Union and your country and you are to be in the thick of it!" 1 Winky (Al Brough) today is a homocide detective in Brooklyn. 2 Wolf was co-author of Space-Time and Beyond (E.P. Dutton, 1975) with me and Bob Toben. Wolf has since written several books on pop physics. 3 Capra is the author of The Tao of Physics, Turning Point, and the film Mind Walk. He was a leader of the Green Party in Germany . He currently runs the Elmwood Institute which offers vague programs in ecology. He was not famous in 1973. In 1975,when I was in charge of the Esalen physics program, Fritjof told me he was broke. He said he needed $1500. I telephoned Werner Erhard and he gave Fritjof the $1500. A few years later, Fritjof was rich and I was broke. He offered to lend me $100. I did not bother. 4David Bohm worked with Einstein at Princeton. Bohm was a student of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Bohm became a target of Senator Joe Mc Carthy and had to leave America. Bohm's vague ideas on "implicate order" have been warmly embraced by pundits in the, now world-wide, New Age Human Potential Movement. My own ideas on the quantum connection were inspired by Bohm's insight. The difference is that I have equations and designs for experiments to test the equations. 5 I had published a paper in Nature Physical Science while at Birkbeck on the creation of the universe and little black holes. It was at Birkbeck that I suddenly remembered my earlier idea that quantum mechanics required faster-than-light influences. I first got the idea in 1961 at Brandeis University where I was a National Defense Fellow. 6 Fred and I were "Odd Couple" room mates at the time. We were both separated from our wives. 7 Abdus Salam later shared the Nobel Prize in Physics for the unification of the electromagnetic and weak forces. Salam was interested in my idea that elementary particles were little black holes that I published later in Toben's Space-Time and Beyond. I have since abandoned that idea. 8 ICTP is also funded by the International Atomic Energy Authority in Vienna. 9 The FBI did a security check at San Diego State after I was already in Europe. 10 Fred Wolf describes some of these events in his book The Eagle's Quest but he oddly does not mention me. He does mention me in his book Parallel Universes. 11 Helen Quinn is now a prominent professor of physics at Stanford. 12 Sharon is a tall aristocratic-looking Henry Jamesean kind of woman with large Bette Davis eyes and chestnut hair from a solid San Francisco Irish Family who seemed to me to be from the Victorian Age. She is now well married to a good Medical Doctor. 13 Brendan O' Regan worked for Astronaut Edgar Mitchell's Institute for Noetic Sciences which was funding the SRI project. Brendan is from Dublin. His family is in the publishing business. He told me about a near death out of body experience that he had in a head-on auto collision. 14 Mitchell was an astronaut who went to the moon and did telepathy transmission experiments on the trip. 15 Targ was parodied in Ghost Busters. 16 Martin Gardner has described these tests in his article "Magic and Paraphysics" reprinted in his book, Science, Good. Bad and Bogus. 17 Sharon and I stayed with Fritjof and his parents in Innsbruck in the winter of 1973. 18 I met Michel, an extraordinarily handsome man from Aix-en- Provence fluent in English, Italian, German, Spanish and Chinese, when he was teaching at San Diego State in 1970. Michel's father (a friend of De Gaulle) was a General in the French Army and Michel served as French Naval Attache in Rome where he became a good friend of U.S. Ambassador Graham Martin. 19 Years later, Dr. Jeffrey Mishlove told me that Kardec researched the occult. He has a cult of millions in France and Latin America. 20 "The Templars supposedly worshipped a devil called Baphomet. At their secret ceremonies they supposedly prostrated themselves before a bearded male head, which spoke to them and invested them with occult powers." - p.49 (see also p.p.54-58) HOLY BLOOD, HOLY GRAIL "An infuriated mob of Thracian women tore Orpheus to pieces, and his head floated, still singing, down the river Herbros into the sea and on to Lesbos, where it was buried and became the centre of an oracular cult." p.xx, ORPHEE, Jean Cocteau (Blackwell's) When Virginia Bruce broke up with me in a jealous rage over my feelings for Suky Sedgwick, she persuaded several women in North Beach (some of them old lovers) that I was evil. These "Thracian women" continue to hound me and Stephen Schwartz in fulfillment of the mythic archetype. Thus, "The version which is commonly accepted in modern times, that an inconsolable Orpheus, faithful to the memory of Eurydice, would have nothing more to do with women and was killed by the neglected women of Thrace, is one we owe to Virgil." p.xxii, ORPHEE (Blackwell) 21 compare the three motorcycles of my experience and Orpheo to Rashi's prophecy of Godfroi's fate in Jerusalem. 22 Castenada's Shaman, Don Juan says that the impeccable warrior must walk with Death on his left shoulder. "Stopping the world" is the transformation of real to imaginary time. Imaginary time is the "dream time" of the Australian Aborigines and the Shamans. 23 according to Holy Blood, Holy Grail, Wagner's Grail Knights are based upon the Templars 24 a) "he was called R. Solomon by the Jews of France, and R. Salomon ha-Zarfati (the Frenchman) by Jews outside of France (p.33)... According to a rather wide-spread legend, Rashi stood in intimate relations with one of the principal chiefs of the Crusade... Godfrey of Bouillon (p.68)" - RASHI, Maurice Liber Szold trans.(Jewish Publication Society, 1906) This book describes (p.p.68-69) Rashi's precognition or "remote viewing" of Godfrey's fate in the war against the Saracens in Jerusalem. Godfrey said to Rashi (Zarfati) "I see that your wisdom is great. I should like to know whether I shall return from my expedition victorious or whether I shall succumb. Speak without fear." Zarfati replied: "Thou wilt take the Holy City and thou wilt reign over Jerusalem three days, but on the fourth day the Moslem will put thee to flight, and when thou returnest only three horses will be left to thee." Godfrey, angered by Zarfati's prophecy, renegs on his promise and threatens to kill all the Jews of France "if I return with only one more horse than thou sayest." Godfrey's fourth horse died at the Gates of Troyes according to ancient legend and the Jews were saved. Keep note of the image of the three horses for later on in the book! b) In a section THE GRAIL AND CABALISM (p.274-5 of Holy Blood, Holy Grail by M. Baigent, R. Leigh and H Lincoln, Delecorte, 1982) I find: "the Grail is an initiatory experience... a 'transformation' ... or 'altered state of consciousness' ... a "Gnostic experience,' a 'mystical experience,' 'illumination,' or 'union with God'. It is possible to ... place the experiential aspect of the Grail in a very specific context ... the Cabala ... it would hardly seem coincidental that there was such a school at Troyes. It dated from 1070 - Godfroi de Bouillon's time - and was conducted by one Rashi, perhaps the most famous of medieval Cabalists." 25 Fred was always quite the ladies man. Late one night, he made love to a young secretary in David Bohm's great leather chair at Birkbeck. The next morning Bohm's much older secretary started sniffing the chair saying "Someone's been here who shouldn't!" 26 Fred later rewrote Space-Time and Beyond in a revised edition. I took my name off the new edition because of the scandal over our book agent Ira Einhorn who was a fugitive from justice for the murder of his girlfriend Holly Maddux. Einhorn claimed he was innocent and was framed by the KGB. Einhorn was deeply connected with Michael Murphy and Esalen as recorded by William Irwin Thompson in The Edge of History. Congressman Charlie Rose (D. South Carolina) of the House Select Committee on Intelligence told me that Einhorn was working with him. Rose supported funding of psychic research and was a visitor to Esalen. 27 Cabala is a Jewish mystical tradition based upon permutations of the letters of the Hebrew Alphabet which is allegely given to man by God. 28 see Fred Wolf's account of these meetings in The Eagle's Quest. 29 I was invited to Theosophical Happy Valley estate in Ojai outside of Santa Barbara by Suares's California friends. One of the old Theosophists told me that I was the reincarnation of Ledbettor. Theosophy was started by Madam Blavatsky based upon her alleged travels in Tibet. It is alleged that these ideas played a role in the rise of Hitler through the Thule Society. 30 I was invited to Theosophical Happy Valley estate in Ojai outside of Santa Barbara by Suares's California friends. Connection to Mosad? Jean Stein's father, Jules Stein (MCA) also was funding some New Age projects in the mid-seventies along with Laurance Rockefeller. One of Rockefeller's close friends Jean Lanier financed me at that time. 34 Josephson spent two weeks with me in San Francisco in 1977. The visit was reported in the Chronicle. He spent a lot of time with Puthoff and Targ at SRI. I introduced Zukav to Josephson. Josephson believes that the superluminal quantum connection is necessary for life and consciousness to exist. 35 Peter Maddux, who was also at the Cambridge meeting told me, years later, "Oh yes, Bardens. He is a part-time stringer for British Intelligence." mondo2.32.5: Jack Sarfatti (sarfatti) Thu 13 Aug 92 04:23 In the thick of it! It was the night before the first Birkbeck test of Uri Geller. Brendan was visibly nervous. He asked me to go with him to see the Soviet science- fiction film Solaris. Brendan had mentioned that Olaf Stapeldons science fiction story Star Maker, about a time traveling super-intelligence, was based upon real experiences that a high member of British Intelligence1 had in the nineteen thirties. The big day arrived. Arthur C. Clarke 2 was there with a high official from Rolls Royce. Arthur Koestler 3 was also there along with John Hasted4, David Bohm and a few others. These events have been described by Martin Gardner 5 and I will not discuss them here. What happened after the tests is more important. If I remember correctly, Brendan and I went with Uri to his hotel room where I met Andrija Puharich 6, Sir John Whitmore and, perhaps, Ira Einhorn7 I could be wrong about Einhorn8. I startled Uri by asking him if he could trigger a nuclear weapon by psychokinesis. I later found out from Ron Mc Rae 9 that some of our intelligence people were greatly concerned about that possibility. I may have initiated that concern because I had mentioned it several times to large groups of people at several meetings. I was back in Paris several weeks later with Sharon. Fred Wolf said: "Jack, I'm going to introduce you to a man who will change your life." Fred took me and Sharon to the swank Ritz Hotel. We waited in the lobby and a guy who looked like Richard Gere10 in a jump suit walks in with a woman. He says: "Hi, I'm Werner Erhard." I had never heard of the guy. I said, "What do you do?" Werner replied: "I make people happy." I thought, "Why am I wasting time with this yo yo?" and, hoping to make a quick exit, said in a sassy Damon Runyon manner, "Oh yeah, I think you must be some kind of an asshole!" Werner's face became positively radiant and he cracked a Mephistophelian11 smile embraced me saying: "I will give you money when you come to San Francisco." I was taken aback by an unexpected offer I could not refuse. I was under contract with E.P. Dutton by then and was planning to go to Chicago to finish Space-Time and Beyond at Bob Toben's place. Werner then outlined his plan for me to set up a sort of Ghost Busters team of physicists to research psychic phenomena and in his words "the physics of consciousness". Werner said that he was very interested in physics and that he wanted me and Fred Wolf to tutor him and his "trainers". We flew to New York. Sharon and I spent a few days with Uri Geller, Ira Einhorn, Bob Toben, Sir John Whitmore and Andrija Puharich at Puharich's large house in Ossining. Puharich gave me his book URI. I did not have time to read it but I gave it to my mother in Brooklyn a few days later. My mother was reading the book12 when she suddenly exclaimed: "Jacky Jacky this is what happened to you!" What happened to me? What are you talking about Ma?" "The computer in the flying saucer that called you on the telephone when you were a little boy. Don't you remember when you got all those phone calls?" An electric shock went through me - I only remember one phone call. "What do you mean phone calls? I only got one call." "No you didn't! Jacky what's the matter with you? You got three weeks of these crazy calls. You were on the phone for hours at a time walking around glassy-eyed. I got worried and grabbed the phone away from you. I said 'Who is this? Why are you calling my son? I heard that voice. It said it was a computer. It wanted you to come back to the telephone. I said 'Don't you call back here again!' and hung up and that was that." Not even a super-technological conscious computer on board a flying saucer from the future can argue with an irate Jewish Mother! Bob Toben drove Sharon and me down to Philadelphia. We stayed with my literary agent Ira Einhorn and his doomed girl friend Holly Maddux 13. Ira introduced took us to the mainline mansion of Arthur Young. Young was the inventor of the Bell Helicopter and was a close friend of Charles Lindbergh Young's wife was an heiress of the Forbes Steel fortune. Young financed the Institute for the Study of Consciousness in Berkeley California. He invited me to stay there. Einhorn told me he would introduce me to Stewart Brand , Michael Murphy14 and George Leonard15 when I got to San Francisco. He was very concerned about what he called "Soviet breakthroughs in psychotronic weapons of mind control at a distance using ELF and sound waves". He said he had support from the local telephone company and from the Bronfman 16 in Toronto to link up visionary scientists like myself. He also said he was working with Jacques Vallee17 and Brendan O Regan on a UFO data base. Ira mentioned that he was working with Congressman Charlie Rose (D. North Carolina) of the House Select Committee on Intelligence18. Rose confirmed his connection to Einhorn in a telephone conversation with me. The rich attorney was good as his word. The briefs came trooping daily. And every day my voice was heard at sessions of Ancient Bailey. All fools who could my fees afford relied on my orations. And many a burglar I've restored to his friends and his relations! - Trial by Jury, Gilbert & Sullivan Werner was as good as his word and promptly had his EST Foundation write me an initial $5,000 check (Autumn 1974). Einhorn did his job as my literary agent and arranged a meeting at Arthur Young's Institute in Berkeley that included Michael Murphy, Hazel Henderson19 and another physicist Saul Paul Sirag20 who was Barbara Honeggers21 lover. Werner gave me free run of his organization which I found rather odd. The estoids all seemed to be glassy-eyed and very creepy.22 One in particular, Raz Ingrasci talked about Werner as if he were God-incarnate. One day Raz said he would jump out of a high window if Werner ordered him to. One day I noticed a table with a sign that said "Bulgarian Desk"23. There were a lot of pretty young women who were easily available since I was known as one of Werner's special friends - a Prince of the Court. Werner was always very warm with me and invited me to many dinners both at Franklin House and at expensive restaurants. He never carried any money or credit cards. We were always escorted (in a Mercedes) by a security team who also paid all the bills. A former student of physicist John Wheeler 24, Robert Fuller was head of Werner's Foundation. Fuller had been President of Oberlin College but had suffered a mid-life crisis and had fallen under Werner's influence. Fuller now heads the World Watch Institute in Washington. I surmise that Fuller25 was jealous of Werner's fondness for me and that this was a factor precipitating my falling out with Werner. I was worried about the crypto- Nazi feel of the est-org, but I had hoped that Werner would get his intellectual act together and say something of genuine interest in terms of physics and philosophy. I was not at all subservient to Werner in his presence like most of the wimpy left-wing academics that surrounded and apparently adored him. Some of these half-twits called him the "new Heidegger26 Professor Irwin Corey 27 made more sense. There was a lot of talk of Werner running for President one day. Werner said he would appoint me to be head of the National Science Foundation. Werner's brother Nathan Rosenberg was in the Navy as an aide to President Carter's Secretary of Defense Harold Brown.28 Kevin Garvey29 told me that Werner had fifteen of loyal estoids in the Carter White House. Werner was very active with trainings of government people in Washington D.C. Carter30 had created Project Scanate31 for remote-viewing of military targets by psychics. Werner used remote-viewing in his training and he also contributed money to SRI for that project. Sidney was a close friend of the late Bishop PikeWerner had me meet with several Stanford and U.C. Faculty before he set up the Physics Consciousness Research Group at Esalen with me and Michael Murphy as co- directors. Michael arranged all our activities in Big Sur. Saul Paul Sirag32 was my chief assistant. Michael arranged for Jean Lanier to supply me with money. Jean, who resembled Shirley MacLaine33 was the widow of the late Chairman of the Board of Stone-Webster Engineering. Her current husband was an Episcopal Priest Sidney Lanier. Sidney was a close friend of the late Bishop Pike He was active in New York off-broadway theater. Sidney was also a close friend of Jose Ferrer who I resemble. Jean rented a five bedroom suite for us on top of Nob Hill34. She was a close friend of Laurance Rockefeller who would telephone the Nob Hill flat looking for her. I attended the EST April Celebrity Training of 1975. The list of trainees included Ellie Coppola, Sterling Hayden35, Michael Murphy, Buzz Aldrin 36, Ted Ashley37, Jerry Rubin38 Fred Wolf, Saul Paul Sirag and many others. Sterling Hayden quickly walked out calling Werner a "Nazi" as he pushed away some estoids who tried to block his passage. Michael Murphy was visibly upset and angry at his close friend Werner. I was sitting with Astronaut Buzz Aldrin who was having a severe kidney problem. Werner got all confused when he tried to talk about the new physics. He let me explain to the group in ordinary language what he was trying to say in his hypnotic estspeak. The trick of est is to seduce your consciousness by subverting the English language with dominating psycho-babble. It was right out of George Orwell's 1984. The est-training did get every one high. It must have been how the SS officers felt after being indoctrinated as leaders of the Master Race. I was introduced to Ellie Coppola during a break in the training. She had just read Space-Time and Beyond. Ellie invited Fred Wolf and me to her home at at 2800 Broadway at 2am after the training. We met her husband Francis Ford Coppola. The first thing Francis said to me was that he did not like Werner Erhard but that he would not tell his wife what to do. Francis has fine moral instincts. I was getting suspicious of Werner39 especially after I heard the rumor that he said he changed his name from Jack Rosenberg to Werner Erhard to "give up Jewish weakness for German strength." I started to spend a lot of time at the Coppola's house. I introduced them to Uri Geller and to Einhorn' friend, French UFO scientist Jacques Vallee40. I think Steven Spielberg and George Lucas were there as well that time but I am not sure. Vallee became technical consultant to Close Encounters of the Third Kind as a result of that introduction. Francois Trauffaut41 played the role of Jacques Vallee in the Spielberg film. Ira Einhorn had introduced me to Vallee. Einhorn and Vallee were working together on a computer network project. I met Jack Nicholson42, Michael Douglas, Milos Forman, Saul Zaentz and Hans Syberberg43 at various parties at the Coppola's Broadway mansion and at Tomasso's Restaurant in North Beach where Francis would bake the pizza in the wood burning oven. Francis was running CITY Magazine. Ellie had Raisa Gustaitus do an article about our Esalen Group called "Faster than the speeding photon". I first met Stephen Schwartz44 at CITY where he was assisting Warren Hinckle45 I once walked into the Caffe Trieste with Francis when Steve Turner walked up to him and aggressively pushed him calling him a "dirty dog". Francis floored Turner with one punch. My meeting with Hans Syberberg at Francis's showing of Our Hitler is of particular importance because it involved a man named "Putzi". I received a phone call from a man named George Koopman 46 during one of our Esalen seminars in 1976. He asked if he could come to Big Sur. I said yes. Koopman soon became a financial patron of my Ghost Busters47 at Esalen. Koopman was a close friend of Dan Akroyd48and my group was the inspiration for the film Ghost Busters. He provided money through military contracts with the Air Force and the U.S. Army Tank Command funneled through his company Insgroup in Irvine, California. Koopman was addicted to cocaine and would talk freely when high. He told us that he was related to Arthur Krockthe publisher of the New York Times. He said that he had blown the whistle on U. S. Army Intelligence domestic spying to the New York Times. Koopman said that he had worked on the "kook desk" for the Defense Intelligence Agency and that they were very interested in the kind of new physics we were working on. They were especially interested in machines that could tell the future49 and in new kinds of aircraft propulsion systems. Koopman liked to show how he could open locked doors with his burglar tools that he always carried in his brief case. He showed me a letter from the military giving him permission to have the tools. Koopman was very interested in Werner Erhard's tax structure. I took Koopman to meet Werner. Werner was in a room with a large blackboard. On the board were several references to "UFOs" and "extra-terrestrial contacts." Werner did not seem to trust Koopman. I found out through one of my girlfriends50 that Koopman succeeded in spying on the Arica organization. Koopman, Sirag and I had heard weird stories from Jan Brewer at Esalen that Arica was started in Chile by high ranking fugitives from the Third Reich who were masters of the occult. Many of the regulars at Esalen, including some of our group like Dr. John Lilly51and Claudio Naranjo52had been in the first Arica training in Chile. Timothy Leary was released from prison. Leary became part of my group at Esalen. Leary was a close friend of Michael Murphy. George Koopman arranged for Leary and me to lecture together at the Arthur Young's Institute in Berkeley. Koopman spent a lot of money hiring a professional T.V. crew to record us. Robert Anton Wilson Nick Herbert and Saul Paul Sirag participated in this event. Koopman became Leary's business manager and publisher. Leary's message was SMI2LE (Space Migration Intelligence Increase Life Extension) which is also the message of this book. Koopman sabotaged me at Esalen by suddenly breaking his contract and stopping the cash flow he had committed. The ostensible reason was that I had insulted the New Age seminarians at Esalen by calling "idiots and morons" which I did. Werner would say much worse in his trainings. Koopman was very high on cocaine when he confronted me with this supposed sin. Koopman would show up at the Cafe Trieste on several occasions years later. I surmise that Koopman was ordered by higher ups to cut me out of the Esalen picture because I was too much of a "loose cannon" that they could not control. They replaced me with my assistant Saul Paul Sirag and with Nick Herbert who continued to run the Esalen seminars. It may be that Koopman's death in 1989 was no accident. That's just a hunch. Chipman's death around the same time as Koopman's may also not have been from natural causes. I walked into the Caffe Trieste one day in 1979. A young girl Maiti said she had written a poem about me. We soon started dating. She said her father was a "senior policy planner" in the government but she did not agree with his politics and had briefly been in the Weatherman. She showed me a photograph of her Grandfather who was a German General (Rudel) during World War Two. Her father had met her mother while on Army duty after the war. One day her father telephoned and said that he heard that the Philadelphia Incident53 was really true. Maiti mentioned that her father had ET contacts as a child like I had. Her father was an Arabic-speaking expert in Middle-East affairs with high level contacts. He once sent me a manuscript on the qabala and the mystical union between Judaism, Christianity and Islam. One day Maiti showed me a copy of a letter that her father, Robert Dickson Crane54, wrote of his friend Anthony Weiner at the Hudson Institute. The letter55 says in part: "Another individual, who may be just plain crazy but also has a slight chance, in my view of being another Einstein, is Jack Sarfatti, who is plugging his 'faster than light' quantum physics ... The reason I am interested in Sarfatti's ideas is that the full potential of negentropy in human thought can be realized only if Sarfatti is right. ... Assuming that Sarfatti is wrong ... the insights of Minsky and of your own cerebration offer about all that the state of the artificial intelligence art can handle for the next decade anyway. If Sarfatti should ever prove to be right, then our work on negentropy in human thought would have created the tools for tapping whatever potential there is in the 'new physics'." I recently had breakfast with Maiti in the Haight-Ashbury she said her father had recently converted to Islam and wanted to be the first US Army Islamic Chaplain. She also said that her father was a close friend of conservative Pat Buchanan. Crane's remarks are not that different from Martin Gardner's56 published statement "In recent years Sarfatti has been promoting an invention .... designed to transmit coded information faster than light. I know of no other physicist who thinks it will work. If it does, Sarfatti will become one of the greatest physicists of all time." I now think that the actual designs I had for faster-than-light communication devices back in 1979 would not have worked. I was remote- viewing my future design with a low signal to noise ratio. Nick Herbert also published a design that would not have worked. I think that today in 1992 I do have a design that will work that I will explain later on. Only experiment will decide. The point here is that if my weird physics turns out to be right, then, it is evidence for my being a contactee of either alien extra-terrestrials or advanced humans or artificial intelligences from our future. If my physics turns out to be wrong, then, I am just plain nuts57 and you wasted your money on rubbish - but perhaps you had fun on the way. I feel like Zorba the Greek in this matter - if you remember the last scene of the movie you'll get my meaning. My adventures with two more women during this period are worth mentioning before moving on to the next Act. One named Crystal picked me up in the Caffe Trieste. She was a statuesque blonde in a low cut green evening dress. Crystal said she belonged to a Coven of Beautiful Witches58 who wanted me to be their Warlock. This was not so crazy in Frisco back then. After we made love she introduced me to a real nut who called himself Damian Zarrow. He said he was from Esalen and that he was in contact with extra-terrestrials and that he was testifying before a Senate Committee. I later found out that Crystal knew another girl friend of mine from Esalen named Betty Andreason. I have since heard of a woman by that name who claims to have been abducted by UFOs. I don't know if its the same woman. In view of the present-day Esalen-Erhard-Yeltsin-Gorbachev connections59, the 1979 Esalen-UFO connection is significant. Even though I had split with Werner Erhard by late 1977, EST's Raz Ingrasci phoned me and asked me to meet with Jenny O Conner. Raz said that Jenny had been sent to Werner by Sir John Whitmore who had funded Andrija Puharich's collaborations with Uri Geller back in 1973. Jenny claimed to be channeling messages from "The Nine" - the same extra-terrestrials that Puharich wrote about. In view of my own contact in 1952 I should have been more diplomatic with Jenny when she came to my apartment at 2 Whiting Place - the apartment that Michael Murphy had given me. Jenny impressed me as total fraud and I practically kicked her out. I was verbally very rude. Jenny and The Nine60 was promptly installed at Esalen for quite some time overlapping with visits by physicist the late Heinz Pagels, Congressman Charlie Rose, Ira Einhorn, and high ranking Russians from Georgy Arbatov's Moscow Institute of US and Canada which was influential during Gorbachev's watch. Soviet Officials at Esalen in late 70's and early 80's Valentin M. Berezhkov61 Yuri A. Zamoshkin62 Andrey A. Kokoshin63 Henrikas Jushkevitshus64 Vladimir M. Kuznetsov Victor M. Pogostin65 Vlail P. Kaznacheyev Joseph Goldin66 This list is not complete. Vladimir Posner is an important fellow in all this according to Schwartz and Tinkerman. The fact remains, the iron post of observation, that a bunch of stoned California flakes into UFOs and psychic phenomena had wormed their way into the highest levels of the American ruling class and the Soviet Union and today run the Gorbachev Foundation. Did these alleged crypto-Nazi KGB agents get high in the hot tubs of Esalen? There certainly were drugs of all kinds in abundance when I was there! Was Jan Brewer telling the truth about the Fourth Reich using Arica to influence the New Age. Brewer was part of the original Esalen group of forty that went to Chile for the first Arica training with Oscar Ichazo67. Arica was big at Esalen at the same time that the Soviets were soaking in the hot tubs. Was I pulled out of the operation by George Koopman because I was unpredictable and uncontrollable? Or is the truth still even stranger than even I can imagine? Is Michael Murphy a Puppet Master or a naive pawn? What about Jim Garrison who now runs Gorbachev's Foundation in America? Was he really a conscious KGB agent as Stephen Schwartz believes? Was Ira Einhorn framed? Was Jean Nadal murdered? Was Francois Trauffaut murdered? Was Harold Chipman68 murdered? Was George Koopman murdered? Will I be murdered? Will my book agent get scared when he reads this? Will this book ever get published? Is this all my Walter Mitty paranoid exaggeration? What do you think? mondo2.32.6: Jack Sarfatti (sarfatti) Thu 13 Aug 92 04:45 1 It is curious that the quote from I.J. Good is about such an intelligence. Good worked with Alan Turing during W.W.II on MK ULTRA which broke the Nazi war codes with the Enigma machine. A curious exchange happened between Good and myself. I wrote another paper for Psychoenergetic Systems. Good sent me a copy of his paper on super- intelligence. The two papers were remarkably similar. So similar that Good suspected me of plagarism - though he did not go so far as to accuse me. In fact, I had not seen Good's paper until he sent me a copy of it. I take this as evidence for a close encounter with super-intelligence lending some credibility to my 1952 phone call from the computer. 2 Author of Childhood's End about the kind of super-intelligence I suggest actually exists and is in contact with us. 3 author of the classic Darkness at Noon. Koestler graciously invited me and Sharon to his home for drinks with his wife. 4 John Hasted, a jolly fellow, was head of the Physics Department at Birkbeck. Birkbeck, created by J.D. Bernal, had a reputation of being very left wing and sympathetic to the Soviet Union. I never encountered this aspect directly in the physics department. Bernal wrote a very important essay, "The World, The Flesh and the Devil" in the 1930's about super-intelligence in the far future. 5 Magic and Paraphysics in Science, Good, Bad and Bogus (Prometheus, 1981). Gardner was an editor for Scientific American. 6 Andrija Puharich M.D. worked for Army Intelligence in the early fifties and wrote one of the first studies on psychedelic drugs. Puharich was Geller's case officer in America with money provided by Sir. John Whitmore. Ira Einhorn worked closely with Andrija Puharich as well as with Esalen's Michael Murphy and George Leonard. 7 Einhorn's biography is The Unicorn's Secret by Steve Levy. Einhorn is still at large as a fugitive from justice. He may be innocent of the murder of Holly Maddux. Opening up KGB files might tell the truth. 8 I recall meeting Einhorn and Puharich in London when I stayed with Brendan O Regan at Joyce Petchek's palatial mansion which had its own olympic-sized swimming pool in the basement. Joyce was a Jewish American Princess who "channeled" an ancient Egyptian Princess. I may have angered her when it became obvious I was more interested in her erotic body than her auric body during her private seance with me. I felt like Groucho Marx in Animal Crackers. Joyce, Brendan and I made a pilgrimage to Paris to see Carlo Suares in the spring of 1974. 9 A reporter for Jack Anderson who wrote MIND WARS (St. Martin's) which credits my help. Mc Rae spent a week with me in North Beach researching his book. 10 I was introduced to Richard Gere outside the Caffe Trieste by my old friend Marcus Demian who helped him get started in Hollywood. 11 One time, at Franklin House (the equivalent of Hitler's Brown House) Werner joked with me "I am the Devil!" 12 Sharon was a witness to this incident. 13 "Blinded by the Light, The Einhorn-Maddux Murder Case,"... Ira Einhorn was the foremost exponent and most celebrated relic of the counterculture which Hair celebrated..." -Albert Robbins, The Village Voice, July 30, 1979 Front Page 14 Michael Murphy told me that he and his brother were the models for the brothers in John Steinbeck's East of Eden. Steinbeck was a close friend of Michael's grandfather who owned the coastal land that Esalen is built on. Michael gave me his apartment on 2 Whiting Street on Telegraph Hill. Michael is very charming and appears to be very naive. He was most likely a "useful idiot" of the KGB in the "psychic war raging across the continents between the Soviet Union and your country" (as Dennis Bardens described it in the Blue Boar Inn) rather than a "Puppet Master". On the other hand, Michael is well aware of the PSI WAR and describes very well in his book The End to Ordinary History. I had dinner with him recently at the Pelican Inn in Marin at a party celebrating Lawry Chickering's marriage to Serena Mondavi. Michael said he wanted me to return to Esalen but he apparently is not a man of his word. 15 As editor of Look in the 60's Leonard wrote the article that launched the Haight Ashbury "Flower Children" as the advance wave of a coming "Transformation" of world consciousness. Leonard also wrote the first major article on alleged psychics in the Soviet Union. George was definitely fooled by the KGB because all of the Soviet psychic claims were transparent disinformation. It is interesting that the Soviets knew what was going to be in Space-Time and Beyond before it was published. Bill Whitehead of Dutton asked me to credit some Russian with the discovery of "bio-gravitation" which, in the Soviet formulation, was a bogus idea. 16 owners of Seagram's Liquor. 17 Vallee gives us a very important clue about the occult-Nazi connection to UFOs and Jenny and The Nine at Esalen on p.p.192 & 193 of Messengers of Deception: "contactee George Adamski had prewar connections with American fascist leader William Dudley Pelly, who died in 1965, was the leader of the Silver Shirts ... Dr. Laughhead, who ... launched Dr. Andrija Puharich on the tracks of the mythic SPECTRA, is also thought to have associated with this group. SPECTRA reappears as Jenny O Conner and THE NINE brought to Esalen by Werner Erhard and Puharich's patron Sir. John Whitmore. 18 a) " Rose ... advocates launching a 'Manhattan Project type' effort to develop the [psychic] weapons. 'The Soviets are up to their ass in this stuff,' he told Mc Rae, 'and we shouldn't fall behind.' - Paranormal Pentagon, Discover,( March 1981, p.15 ) b) "The witnesses Rose would call include CIA officials who, Rose said, 'know this remote-viewing stuff works but who have been blocked by publicity-shy superiors.' -William K. Stuckey, PSI ON CAPITOL HILL, OMNI p.24 19 I met Hazel Henderson again when we were both speakers at the San Francisco Art Institute along with Angela Davis. 20 Sirag spent the first five years of his life in a Japanese prison camp on Borneo where his parents were Missionaries. He played Mr. Spock to my Captain Kirk in the Physics Consciousness Research Group until George Koopman torpedoed it. Sirag then lived with Barbara Honegger in a flat provided by Henry Dakin. 21 Honegger worked with Jim Hickman, Michael Murphy and Brendan O Regan. Barbara told me of a strange encounter with Brendan O Regan in which trance medium Ingo Swann spoke with a cold metallic voice and said that it was a computer from a hundred years into the future. She actually was doing some interesting work in synchronicity. Barbara sued Stanford Professor Karl Pribram in an assault case and won. She went to work for Martin Anderson at the Hoover Institute and followed Anderson to Reagan's White House in 1981. I warned Lawry Chickering that Barbara was a loose cannon. Sure enough she quit the White House saying that the Reaganites were unfair to women. She has accused the Reagan team of the "October Surprise". Barbara says that Bill Casey arranged that the American hostages in Iran not be released until Reagan was elected. Stephen Schwartz says Barbara is lying. 22 In fact Phil Kaufmann's remake of Invasion of the Body Snatcher's set in San Francisco imitates the behavior of the hard core estoids. I would not be surprised if some of them were androids off a flying saucer. 23 I also met Bulgarians doing "psychic research" at Henry Dakin's offices where Michael Murphy and Jim Hickman were doing their psychic-Soviet project. An army friend, in a position to know, told me that all the Bulgarians in America at that time were KGB agents. Stephen Schwartz of the neo-conservative Institute for Contemporary Studies who is an expert on Soviet Communism confirmed my friend's statement. Werner and Michael Murphy have spent lots of time in the Soviet Union before and after it fell. In fact, Werner has appeared to run back to Moscow now that the IRS indicted him for multi-million dollar tax fraud. Will Werner become a political power in the New Russia? 24 Wheeler worked with Einstein and Bohr and was Richard Feynman's thesis advisor at Princeton. Wheeler is the Merlin of Physics and a lot of my ideas were inspired by his visionary writings. I suspect Wheeler is channeling messages from the future telepathically as are some other physicists like his former student Kip Thorne and also David Deutsch. Of course Wheeler and the others may have no idea that they may be caught in the Destiny Matrix! 25 Fuller arranged a series of expensive junkets for famous physicists as part of Werner's plan to gain respectability in his megalomaniacal drive for influence and world power. Rev. Moon does exactly the same thing. San Francisco Chronicle science reporter Charles Petit wrote on Wed. Jan 28, 1981 (p.32) "An unusual closed-door meeting of more than a dozen of the world's foremost physicists , including at least three Nobel Prize winners, has been held under the sponsorship of est-founder Werner Erhard in San Francisco..." The list of physicists included Murray Gell-Mann, Stephen Hawking, Leonard Susskind, and David Finkelstein. I had introduced Finkelstein to Werner when I brought Finkelstein to Esalen. Susskind (who is now a professor at Stanford) Jonathan Glogower and I had worked together in 1963 as students at Cornell on the problem of coherent phase in quantum mechanics. I had formulated the problem when I worked for Tech/Ops in 1963. In fact I mention my work with Susskind and Glogower in a paper I published in Il Nuovo Cimento (March, 1963). I had arranged for Glogower to get into Cornell as a graduate student through Phil Morrison even though Glogower never got a BA degree (Susskind also did not finish his BA degree). Glogower and I were friends since age eleven. He was a Westinghouse Science Finalist. I knew him when I received the UFO phone call in 1952. Glogower never did anything other than that one paper with me and Susskind. Susskind said that that paper is the only one he may be remembered for. It is extensively quoted. I went off to work at Ford Aeronutronics in California. In the meantime Susskind finished abd published the work we had started together and never even gave me an acknowledgement as would have been proper but not expedient. Susskind's lack of professional ethics back in 1963 seems to fit right in with Stanford's abuse of tax payer's money in 1992. Stanford is not the only university to have cheated America. Oddly enough, the phase paper appears in the same issue that published John Bell's paper on nonlocality which is the key idea of physics part of this book. Petit continues: "The meeting chairman was theoretical physicist Leonard Susskind of Stanford University ...An est spokesman, Doug Bell, said Susskind wanted word passed that 'it's not like there is anything to hide here. Its just a few fellows having a meeting. But where its at for them is that it doesn't want or merit the kind of attention that you are going to give it.'" 26 Heidegger's passive collaboration with Hitler is well known. 27 Corey used to hang out at Enrico's Cafe where I spent a lot of time with Marshall Naify, Chairman of the Board of United Artist Theaters. Werner started est in offices above Enrico's. 28 he is now President of Cal Tech 29 Garvey who lives in Carlisle, Pennsylvania near the Army War College has collected all kinds of data on Werner and other cult figures. Garvey came to see me in North Beach years ago. He was concerned about New Age penetration of the US Army. 30 Carter met Uri Geller on a State Visit to the President of Mexico. Geller fooled Carter like he fooled me, Bohm and Hasted. An intelligence friend of mine told me that Geller was having an affair with the wife of the President of Mexico at the time. I had been contacted by an American intelligence agent for an evaluation of Geller before Carter made the trip as part of the security for the trip. 31 Former Naval Intelligence Officer and Jack Anderson reporter Ron Mc Rae told me that the Navy had been fooled by phony data on remote-viewing of Soviet submarines because someone had leaked the actual data to the phony psychics. Mc Rae seems to have omitted this story from his book MIND WARS. Barbara Honegger said that policy decisions on the basing of MX missiles were made by the Reagan staff under the belief that remote-viewing worked. Harold Chipman believed that it worked and told me that he had used it successfully in his business. Indeed, he introduced me to a glamorous private detective, Virginia "Ginger" Bruce, as one of his best performers in remote-viewing operations. Ginger and I became lovers. She confirmed that she had participated in experiments with Chipman. Ginger was like the Princess in Cocteau's Orfee "une espionne chargee de surveiller un homme et qui le suave en se perdant" in Cocteau's words. 32 Robert Anton Wilson, who was part of our Esalen Seminars, quotes Sirag extensively in his books. 33 Shirley MacLaine quotes me in her book Dancing in the Light. She got the title from Gary Zukav's Dancing Wu Li Masters. Gary boasted that he went to bed with Shirley. Not only does the ungrateful poseur steal my ideas and money but he steals my great love as well - I always had a crush on Shirley. If there was any justice I should go to bed with her - what a world. Oh God why me! Shirley if you read this get in touch! I want Mel Brooks to do the screen play of my story with Gene Wilder playing me. 34 1155 Jones St. 35 liberal movie actor. 36 NASA astronaut who was on moon trip. 37 CEO of Warner Brothers Studios. 38 famous yippy in Chicago 1968. Rubin became a loyal estoid on Wall Street. I worked with his girl friend Estelle Resnick in forming the Peace and Freedom Party in San Diego in the late sixties. Estelle and I were both Ed Meese and Caspar Weinberger. I do think that Jack Kemp is right that we have to do more to help the poor and the homeless help themselves. The destruction of the American Middle Class will mean the end of liberty in America. The streets of North Beach are filling up with deadbeats - professional bums who were always bums even before homelessness became a big problem. I say jail the bums and the vandals and house and feed the deserving homeless. No woman, child or aged person should be allowed to live in the streets. Everyone should have medical insurance. The local churches have not taken the lead as they should. 39 I was in the position of the actor in the German film Mephisto. You will see later how this ties in with Rashi Zarfati's relation to Godfroi de Bouillon, Margherita Sarfatti's relation to Mussolini and Putzi Sedgwick- Hanfstaengl's relation to Hitler. 40 author of Messengers of Deception about UFOs and The Network Revolution. The latter describes my consulting for U.S. intelligence (without mentioning my name explicitly). It also describes est infiltration into Silicon Valley computer firms. 41 I met a friend of Trauffaut's at Esalen, a young French playwright named Jean Reisser Nadal. He was investigating the New Age movement for French National Radio. He stayed with me in San Francisco and told me he had discovered some disturbing political connections including a plan to assassinate Nelson Rockefeller. I took him to the airport. A few months later I received an invitation to his funeral at Pere La Chaise cemetery. I had Michel Roure speak to Jean's girl friend. She said that Jean kept saying "contact Jack Sarfatti" before he died. His death was do to a sudden onset of bone cancer. This is the way Harold Chipman also died. I am told that radioactive poisoning has been used for murder by intelligence organizations. Trauffaut is also dead. Nadal told me that he and Trauffaut were planning to write a screenplay or documentary based upon his research. I alerted a friend in American intelligence about the threat to Rockefeller and Nadal's death. Rockefeller did die soon after under odd circumstances. 42 I was told that John Updike used me as the model for Daryl Van Horne in Witches of Eastwick. Nicholson played this role in the movie. I had been dating Suky Sedgwick and Updike uses the name Suky in the book. Eastwick sounds like Sedgwick. Updike knows the story of the Sedgwicks and apparently knows about my work in the new physics since he alludes to it in both Eastwick and his book Roger's Version. If, on the other hand, Updike did not know about me and Suky then we have a remarkable meaningful coincidence suggesting a sense of humor in what John Lilly calls "Cosmic Coincidence Control". 43 Hans Syberberg has made two films Our Hitler and Parsifal. Francis Coppola distributed Our Hitler in America. I watched this six hour film with Syberberg in Francis's private theater. Although I did not realize its significance then, Our Hitler has Putzi Sedgwick-Hanfstaengl as a central image. I met Putzi's grandson at around the same time. 44 Stephen Schwartz was a red diaper baby turned neoconservative. Edie Sedgwick's niece, Leila Minturn Dwight, introduced Stephen to A. Lawrence Chickering at the Caffe Trieste. Chickering's grandfather had worked with Leila's great grandfather, Henry De Forest, who had run the Southern Pacific Railroad at the turn of the century. Schwartz became a force at Chickering's Institute for Contemporary Studies. His most recent book is A Strange Silence about the rise of democracy in Nicaragua. Both Schwartz and Chickering write for the San Francisco Chronicle. 45 Hinckle took me drinking several times at a policeman's bar on Kearny Street in the Barbary Coast near Coppola's building. Coppola's office is designed to look like Captain Nemo's submarine in Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. In some ways Francis is a genius kid who never grew up. He likes to collect all kinds of toys. He has the power to make his fantasies real. 46 "George A. Some of it stems from the search for reliable and jamming-free modes of communication. A popular wave of interest in ESP stemmed from a boom in the occult and supernatural phenomena in the late 1960's and early 1970's, a time when ESP research in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union also attracted popular attention. some scientists in the West have feared that the mounting fascination with ESP, in league with the resurgence in the occult and mysticism, threatens science itself ... The Russians have long recognized that if ESP were an actual effect and could be harnessed, it would have great strategic potential. In 1973, stories appeared describing CIA-sponsored probing of Soviet and Chinese secret installations by individuals with high psi ability. By the mid-1970s, Stanford Research Institute appeared to be carrying the ball. Evidence of interest and research, however, does not necessarily mean serious acceptance or commitment to programs ... nations involved in disarmament talks may interject 'jokers' or 'riders' into otherwise serious and rational proposals to make sure that their opponents will not accept them. Those thus maneuvered into the role of rejectors may seem in the eyes of technically unaware publics to be foes of peace. A corollary to this is the strategy of mounting shadow programs to draw an adversary's attention - and resources - into a dead end, the essence of Soviet efforts in the field of 'disinformation'. it is not clear at this point if both sides are really just playing with each other, or if there is something really developing in the realm of ESP..." - Cnth?: On the Strategic Potential of ESP by Dr. Roger A. The kind of world Lilly describes is the world that I am arguing for in this book. Lilly was a close friend of the great physicist the late Richard Feynman. Lilly was at Esalen when high ranking Soviet officials were there. To what extent have the events leading to the fall of the Soviet state been caused by the Esalen drug experiences of Soviet leaders? Both Yeltsin and Gorbachev are closely tied to Esalen as is Werner Erhard. Even Lawry Chickering of ICS has mentioned the importance of Esalen in the neoconservative movement. This is the same Esalen that gave seminars by an alleged discarnate group of extra- terrestrials called "The Nine". Andrija Puharich writes about "The Nine" in URI. My ex-book agent Ira Einhorn spent six weeks at Esalen after he was indicted for the murder of Holly Maddux. Congressman Charlie Rose who believed the KGB disinformation on PSI WARS has also given seminars at Esalen - strange goings on for sure. Who is Esalen's Jim Garrison? He was a co-founder of the Christic Institute. How did Dr. John Mack of Harvard Medical School get so close to Garrison? Mach was tech advisor for CBS mini series on UFO abductions. Mack is a founder of Physicians for Social Responsibility and has a Pullitzer for a book on Lawrence of Arabia. Mack told me that he heard that Gorbachev has had a UFO contact experience. Where did he come from? How did he get to be head of Gorbachev's Foundation in America? How did Garrison get Yeltsin to come to America? Garrison brought Boris Yeltsin to America in 1990. Schwartz said that Garrison came to him at the San Francisco Chronicle and asked him to write a story that Yeltsin was an unstable drunkard. Schwartz refused. 52 Naranjo, Fred Wolf and I were in Brasil together in 1985 as keynote speakers at the First International Congress on the Mind/Matter Interaction paid for by IBM Brasil. I met many wealthy and powerful people in Brasil including Army Generals. They all think Uri Geller has real paranormal powers and none of them doubted the reality of UFOs. A retired general showed me elaborately twisted pieces of metal that he claimed he saw bent psychokinetically by local versions of Uri Geller. He also claimed to have seen UFO landings in the Amazon jungle. 53 A Navy ship in WWII allegedly went through what Kip Thorne calls a "traversable wormhole time machine". 54 a cousin of Congressman Phil Crane (R. Jim Hickman, Saul Paul Sirag, Roger Macdonald, Steve Donovan, Trever Alston, Russell Rae and others participating: Saul-Paul asks Jenny "Have you ever interacted with Jacques Vallee?" Jenny says, "We were supposed to. We met Hal Puthoff..I met your friend." Dakin's transcript reads "discussion of Jack Sarfatti, and Jenny's meeting with him" The Nine then intervene speaking through Jenny "Main facilities Houston, Texas." [transcript incomplete here] Someone asks, "Any other facilities?". The Nine respond: "A total of 85." Roger Macdonald asks, "Any other extremely large, not as large as the facilities in Houston?" Michael Murphy's partner, Jim Hickman says:"There is NASA, but NASA isn't supposed to be with the military." The Nine says, "Wilmington ... The Nine, "NSS" Saul-Paul says "It could be some Navy thing." The Nine, "You called it National Security Service. They called it just the SS." Saul Paul says, "Secret Service?" Jim Hickman says, "I can believe that." Hickman asks, "You talked about Project Henry ..." The Nine, "All CIA involved." Hickman, "All?", The Nine, "Yes". later on in transcript Hickman says "... Oddly enough, a novel called Speed of Light was published in Berkeley in the late 70's by a woman. The plot was similar to the Brewer story and it involved Werner Erhard. I had also met a woman who told me that Werner was deeply involved with William Penn Patrick, a collector of Nazi memorabilia and founder of Holiday Magic. 68 Chipman started funding my work in 1985. He said he had secretly funded part of the SRI work in remote viewing. He also introduced me to Virginia Bruce. He was involved with a Texas Company TLC and a man named Joe Peeple's who was indicted for selling arms to Iran in the mid-80's. mondo2.32.7: Jack Sarfatti (sarfatti) Thu 13 Aug 92 04:56 Orpheus in North Beach It was 1978. I had recently written a black comedy called Hitler's Last Weapon. It was about a Werner Erhard type guy who is the reincarnation of Hitler and becomes the first psychic dictator of the United States. This was not so far fetched then. Werner was riding high and Sixty Minutes had not yet accused him of sexually abusing his daughter and beating his wife.1 My old boy Cornell chum, Lee Myers had paid Steve Hill to make a twenty minute radio program of the script with British actor Eric Bauersfeld narrating. The program became a minor cult classic on public radio and is still played late at night. One day I was sitting on the terrace of the Savoy Tivoli on Grant Avenue in North Beach. I believe, but I an not certain, that Leila Minturn Dwight introduced me to a handsome young man of about nineteen that she said was her distant cousin from Munich. The young man, Egon Hanfstaengl Jr., was here for the summer and soon became a regular part of my circle of Caffe cronies. I'm not sure I got the first name right. I did not pay too much attention to him as I was more interested in meeting women and I have avoided parental roles. I did invite him to a party given by Norwood Pratt2 The young Hanfstaengl came in lederhosen and sang Tyrolean songs. In the course of casual conversations he had indicated that his grandfather Ernst Franz Sedgwick-Hanfstaengl (a.k.a. Putzi) had played an important role in history. He was never specific. I did not realize then that his grandfather had been the Victor Burge of The Third Reich personally beloved by Adolph Hitler. I did not know then that the young man's father sat on Hitler's lap many times and called him "Uncle Dolph". I did not know that the young Hanfstaengl's grandfather was depicted in Syberberg's Our Hitler which I had seen. The end of summer came. Young Hanfstaengl's wife-to-be came, she was the daughter of the publisher of Der Stern. The two innocent children went back to Munich and I hope are living happily ever after. Putzi's book Unheard Witness3 is dedicated to his friend Oswald Spengler. Like many of the Sedgwicks4, Putzi has a gift for writing. Here are a few tantalizing short literary bytes from his table of contents: "My schooldays with Himmler's father - Sedgwick, Heine and Hanfstaengl forbears - Harvard and Theodore Roosevelt ... The American military attache speaks of Hitler-Introduction to an agitator ... Introducing Hitler to society ... Wagneron an upright piano ... Plan for a putsch ... Hitler's attempted suicide. Hitler's attempted suicide in 1923 - here hangs a tale in which the inaction of Putzi's wife could have prevented World War Two and the development of the atomic bomb. In fact, what happened in this universe, was that she stopped Hitler from shooting himself in the head, at the very last moment, by knocking the gun out of his hand just as the police were about to enter. If the many worlds interpretation of quantum reality is correct, then, at that dramatic moment the universe split into two parallel universes. In the universe next door the Holocaust never happened and neither did the State of Israel. Carlo Suares speaking from the occult cabalistic perspective said that Hitler was God's Instrument for the Restoration of Israel. I do not think it was worth the price. The parallel between Putzi's relation to Hitler and mine to Werner is interesting, but Putzi, a member of the high and mighty ruling class, had a lot more fun and lived much higher on the hog. Putzi writes: The log-chest in the corner of the fireplace in my library is still covered with the traveling rug I lent to Hitler when he was a prisoner in Landsberg ... It was to my house in Munich ... that he came for his first meal after release from jail and where, nearly a decade later, he celebrated with Eva Braun the year of his triumph. Mine was the first Munich family of standing into which he was introduced in the days of his insignificance. ... I tried to impregnate him with some of the norms and ideas of civilized existence, only to be thwarted by the ignorant fanatics who were his closest cronies. I fought a running and losing battle against Rosenberg5 and his hazy race mystique ....People have said I was Hitler's court jester. Certainly I used to tell him jokes, but only to get him into the sort of mood in which I hoped he would see reason. I was the only man who could hammer out Tristan and the Meistersinger to his satisfaction ... My mother was born a Sedgwick-Heine. My maternal grandmother came from the well-known New England family and was a cousin of the General John Sedgwick who fell at Spotsylvania Court House in the Civil War and whose statue stands at West Point. My grandfather was another Civil War general, William Heine. In the funeral cortege of Abraham Lincoln he was one of the Generals who carried the coffin. My mother .. could remember Lincoln's funeral clearly ... The Hanfstaengls ... For three generations ... were privy councilors to the Dukes of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha ...in 1905 I was sent to Harvard ... I made friends with ... T.S. Eliot, Walter Lipp\pmann, Hendrik von Loon, Hans von Kaltenborn, Robert Benchley and John Reed... President Theodore Roosevelt ... had heard of my prowess through his sone and invited me to Washington in the winter of 1908 ... I ... took over the Hanfstaengl branch on Fifth Avenue. It was a delightful combination of business and pleasure. The famous names who visited me were ... Pierpont Morgan, Toscanini, Henry Ford, Caruso, Santos-Dumont6, Charlie Chaplin, Paderewski ... I took most of my meals at the Harvard Club, where I made friends with the young Franklin D. Roosevelt. Putzi finally fled Hitler in 1938 in fear of Goebbels's jealousy of Hitler's fondness for him. Putzi's distant cousin FDR was embarrassed by Putzi's presence in Washington and sent him to an obscure Army post in Texas. Sam Rayburn pressured FDR into accepting the Pentagon design for the new war office as part of the Putzi deal. FDR wanted another design. Francis Ford Coppola distributed Syberberg's film Our Hitler. Putzi is a major character in that film. I did not realize the connection until years later. I saw Our Hitler around the same time that I met Putzi's grandson in North Beach. My connection to the Sedgwick karma thickens because two years later in 1981, Leila Dwight introduced me to her aunt Suky Sedgwick who was Edie Sedgwick's baby sister. I fell in love with Suky7 and we became lovers. I did not know about Edie and the tragic suicides8 in Suky's family, nor was I consciously aware of the connection to young Hanfstaengl. The Sedgwicks seem to have an Orphic connection to Hades as might have been imagined by Edgar Allen Poe. John P. Marquand, Jr., a Sedgwick himself writes: Have you ever seen the old graveyard up there in Stockbridge? In one corner is the family's burial place: it's called the Sedgwick Pie ... In the center Judge Theodore Sedgwick is buried ... his tombstone, a high rising obelsik ... The legend is that on Judgment Day when they arise and face the Judge, they will have to see no one but Sedgwicks ... He was a political ally of Alexander Hamilton and George Washington ...Minturn had always been very much involved in the traditions of the Pie .. Kennedy knew all about the Sedgwick Pie, and Minturn wondered after having watched the ... Kennedy funeral - the casket on the horse drawn cart ... if perhaps Mrs. Kennedy hadn't 'borrowed' the idea from us ... He stocked up on simple coffins ... got into them and 'tested' them ..." p.p.3-9 EDIE Suky has extreme mood swings but when she is up she is charming brilliant and sexy. She loves to give dinner parties to the music of Ella Fitzgerald9 and Louis Armstrong. She plays classical piano. Suky is a great Italian cook. Like the Henry Jamesian American Princess abroad that she was, she had married an Italian count and was fluent in Italian as well as French. She had spend years in Africa as well as in Italy. I met her on the rebound from her husband Fabrizio Corsi. At the time I did not know that I could also have claimed Italian Nobility because of the Sarfatti Crest on a wall of the Synagogue in Venice given by the Doge. Suky's bedroom contains a leather-bound set of the autographed works of Rudyard Kipling that she inherited from her De Forest grandmother. Her grandmother nursed Kipling to health after a severe illness at their Long Island estate. British Parliament opened with "God Save Kipling." and they sent a letter of thanks to Suky's grandparents. Suky was my Reluctant Muse . She was my Eurydice, my Desdemona, my Cressida, my Kundry, my Salome, my Cleopatra, my Morgana La Fey, my Carmen. Was Orphee a tenor? Yes, in Gluck's opera. Andy Warhol's film Ciao! Manhattan stars Edie. The plot involves a UFO contactee in a relation to Edie which precognizes my future relation to Suky. I did not see the Warhol film until my romance with Suky was over - for then at least.. Suky's grandfather Henry Dwight Sedgwick wrote a prophetic essay "House of Sorrow"10 in 1908 in which he says that the future creates the past. His imagery is almost identical with that of Sir Fred Hoyle11's in his recent book The Intelligent Universe. I believe that the quantum force of destiny , or the Ghost of Henry Dwight Sedgwick, has guided me to Suky. I would not have known about Henry Dwight were it not for Suky. I relate a Jungian synchronicity. I was attending a meeting of the AAAS at the Hilton Hotel in 1980. A man walked up to me noticed my name tag "Sarfatti" and said "Are you related to Margherita Sarfatti?"12 "Yes, distantly.", I replied. "I have traced your family tree back a thousand years to Rashi de Troyes. My name is David Padwa." Padwa told me a little about the great French Rabbi. He claimed that one of Rashi's daughters went to Spain and that her descendants formed our Italian branch13 after the expulsion of Spanish Jews in 1492. He said we were distant cousins. He gave me his card. He was from Santa Fe, New Mexico. I mentioned the incident to beat poet, Gregory Corso. Corso said. "Oh yeah, Padwa! I knew him in the Village. He's a smart guy who made a lot of money from Xerox. He went with Ram Dass to India. He's mentioned in the book Be Here Now as the rich American in the Land Rover. He's a real heavy with the Dalai Lama. He brought the Dalai Lama to America." About a month goes by. Dave Masetti, editor of North Beach Magazine back then hands me a letter from Padwa. I open it. Padwa writes that a strange thing happened to him right after he met me. He had been looking for the autobiography of George Gamow My World Line for six months. It was out of print. Mathematician Stan Ulam had told Padwa to read it. Padwa leaves me at the Hilton after the conversation about Rashi wanders over to North Beach and discovers My World Line on a shelf in Discovery Bookstore. He then goes to Ferlinghetti's City Light's Bookstore and sees a copy of North Beach Magazine with my picture on the cover. In the picture I am holding a copy of Gamow's My World Line in front of a large poster of Einstein. I reproduce the following information for the record. "SARFATTI-GRASSINI, MARGHERITA ... A mistress, confidante, and biographer of Mussolini, Sarfatti was a highly influential figure in the cultural and artistic policies of the Fascist regime ... from a comfortable Venetian- Jewish family ... A woman of acute intelligence and sophistication, while still in her teens she became a militant activist in the Italian Socialist Party ... and in the feminist movement along with such major Socialist women as Angelica Balabanoff, Anna Kuliscioff, and Clara Zetkin ... She .. married a Socialist lawyer, Cesare Sarfatti, and both became close friends and supporters of Mussolini ... Their son Roberto (1900-18) who was killed in the war, was later an object of Fascist veneration ... In the years during the struggle for power Sarfatti and Mussolini became intimate friends, and she exercised an increasing influence on him. ... she was dubbed the 'dictator of the figurative arts.' Sarfatti was one of the most avid admirers of twentieth-century modernism ... her political influence enabled her to .... sponsor painters, sculptors and architects ... In 1925- 26 Sarfatti was instrumental in founding the Novecento art group in Milan. ... by 1934 their intimate relationship had ended .... The final break came in 1938 with the passage of the Fascist anti-Semitic laws ... In 1939 she left Italy on a passport provided for her on Mussolini's instructions..." - Historical Dictionary of Fascist Italy, P.V. Cannistrano (Greenwood) Mussolini's grand daughter is active in politics. She is the niece of Sophia Loren. I was at the Rev. Moon Unity of Science Conference on the Absolute at the Fairmont Hotel in 1980. I met Yuval Ne-eman14 and Max Jammer from Israel. Ne-eman was quite interested in talking about the significance of the name "Sarfatti" to Jewish History. Ne-eman was, of course, talking of Rashi - the first Sarfatti15. Ne-eman has published an important paper on the fiber bundle mathematics of the quantum connection beyond space-time. Samuel Sarfatti was the personal physician to Pope Julius the Second. Samuel was a friend of Michelangelo. He taught anatomy to Michelangelo. Sarfatti used his influence with the Pope to get Michelangelo the commission to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo shows God reaching backwards to Adam. This is the perfect symbol for the root idea of my new physics that the future creates the past. God evolved from man in our future uses time travel to create the universe and man in what physicists now call a "globally self-consistent loop in time". Part of my new physics message is that synchronicity can be an effect of contact with advanced intelligence able to manipulate the quantum connection in what John Lilly calls "cosmic coincidence control". This is a dangerous idea, but it may be true. It is a scientifically testable idea. Quantum devices can be built base upon it if it is true. In fact I have published a design for one.16 I do not mean to imply that every paranoid fantasy by mentally disturbed people should be accepted on face value - but, I suggest, some of the "voices" people hear might be from elsewhere. Each case must be studied individually in a scientific objective way. I think the extreme relativism of New Age thinking is wrong. True, there are many complementary points of view equally valid within their proper context, but the whole idea of physics is that there are objective absolute "invariant" truths. I must relate another Jungian synchronicity that just happened. My old Cornell buddy Lee Myers an his companion Rebecca Paxton generously gave me a powerful 486 50MHZ computer with lots of RAM for me to run Stephen Wolfram's MATHEMATICA program for my research. I am still learning the intricacies of how to use software in composing this book. Somehow using the indexing feature of Microsoft Word I got "Santos Dumont" from the Putzi quote to appear in the style window where it should not be. I had been in Santos Dumont's house in Brasil in 1985 but his name does not usually come up in my work. One of my assistants, David Gladstone was working on a 286 computer in the same office. He was writing a comparison of my views with Jung's. I quit for the night and picked up Richard Hall's UNINVITED GUESTS, A Documented History Of UFO Sightings, Alien Encounters & Coverups (Aurora, Santa Fe). Sitting in bed, I "randomly" open the book to page 183 and read: "Geometrical UFOs were sighted at least as early as 1904 in a formation that dove, then climbed away, observed by crew members of the U.S.S. Supply, a Navy ship off the U.S. west coast. Unless the Wright Brothers or Santos Dumont suddenly made a miraculous breakthrough in propulsion that has since been lost to aviation history, these could not have been secret devices. Nor could the structured, craft-like objects observed in controlled air lanes and over urban areas for the past 40 years have been secret devices, unless their operators have gone quite mad. ...We cannot rule out the theoretical possibility that they come from some presently unknown realm, such as a parallel universe impinging on our reality in some way; that they are space/time travelers ... or that they are puppets or androids manipulated by some Super intelligence that itself might take a totally non-human form." I am reminded of the final scenes of The Wizard of Oz. I am suggesting, as a working scientific hypothesis to be tested, that Super intelligence has been contacting certain physicists whether they realize it or not. I am one , John Wheeler, Kip Thorne, David Deutsch and others are part of the contactee group. The parallel "universe next door" idea must be taken more seriously because of a physics paper "Quantum mechanics near closed timelike lines" published by Oxford University's David Deutsch in the November 15, 1991 Physical Review D. Deutsch makes the astounding suggestion that: "One can speculate what might happen if we one day discover or create, a closed timelike world tube large and regular enough to accommodate safely the entire solar system, and we have the means to move the solar system into it. Then we should be in a position to create any number of copies of the solar system. ... and the process would succeed with subjective certainty ... If the effect is typically used ... then it would be very unlikely that any young civilization such as ourselves would yet have observed other intelligent life even if civilizations come into existence quite frequently in the galaxy." (p.3211) 1 I am not saying that Werner is guilty of those charges. I saw his daughter talk on TV and it is hard to understand why she would lie in public like that. If Werner had only listened to me he would have paid his taxes, talked straight English, been less Hitlerian and more democratic - and maybe he could have been the great leader he dreamed of being. Werner stinks on TV. He is too rigid and humorless. He still seems to be popular and credible in Russia - a fact that never ceases to astonish me. Are they all yokels over there? Wake up Comrades! 2 Pratt is a Southern Aristocrat from North Carolina - a Rhett Butler looking sort of man. He is an expert on French Poetry, fine wines and the history of the Hermetic Tradition like my other friend the surrealist poet Phillip La Mantia. Norwood is a friend of Adolph Coors. Pratt is the original author of the script for "In Praise of Older Women" but he sold the rights before it was produced. 3 Lippincott, 1957 4 Catharine Sedgwick, spinster, was the first major American woman novelist (New England Tales) and a major figure in the lives of Poe, Hawthorne, Melville and William Cullen Bryant. She was the daughter of Judge Theodore Sedgwick a leader of the Federalists close to Alexander Hamilton. Sedgwick is famous for crushing Shay's Rebellion and was one of the first Speakers of the House of the US Congress. Catharine's mother, Pamela Sedgwick was the daughter of Jonathan Edwards the "hell fire and brimstone" preacher who was second President of Princeton when his son-in-law Aron Burr's father (the first President) died young. That makes Aron Burr, who shot Hamilton in a duel, Catharine's cousin. Henry Dwight's brother, Ellery Sedgwick, was the famous editor of The Atlantic who published Hemingway, T. S. Eliot and others. 5 Jack Rosenberg? Is Werner really Jewish? Any connection to Alfred Rosenberg? 6 my italics for paranormal reasons to be explained below. 7 from my notes: "Suky, my Reluctant Muse 'breaks like a little girl', many is the time I held her in my arms as she wept with the memories ... Suky with her throaty upper-crust enunciations has her moments when to quote Henry James she is 'all straightness and charming tossed head' pure 'disengaged dancing flame' her 'rare personality seems to shine out with absolute defiant reality'. Alas! I was only a toy for Suky's slumming in Bohemia with Gregory Corso ... Syberberg's film Parsifal features a woman who resembles Suky as Kundrie who mocked Christ and is yet the Messenger of the Grail. 8 see EDIE by Jean Stein and George Plimpton 9 "Give me a kiss to build a dream on." I do miss the parties. She never took me to the ten square mile ranch in Santa Ynez to meet "Mummie" because, I suspect, Mummie did not like Jews. I was deeply offended at not being accepted by her family, especially Leila's mother Pamela, and this was a major factor in our breakup. Suky tends to pick lovers way beneath her station. Gregory Corso, who had been close to Bobbie Sedgwick and Edie, was always playing tricks on Suky like a mischievous Cupid trying to get us together. 10 "Science proceeds as if the past were the home of explanation; whereas the future, and the future alone, holds the key to the mysteries of the present... Things must be judged in the light of the coming morning, not of the setting stars. It is not the past which, like an uncoiling spring, pushes us on: creation faces the future, and is drawn onward by an irresistable attraction." writes Sedgwick in 1908 - compare also to the Michael Murphy quote at the beginning of this book. 11 Hoyle writes in 1986: "Instead of the Universe beginning in the wound- up state of the Big Bang, degenerating ever since, an initially primitive state of affairs could wind itself up gradually as time proceeds, becoming more, not less sophisticated from past to future." 12 Margherita met Mussolini as a young man. She was beautiful intelligent and one of the first feminists. She was a mentor and sometime mistress to Mussolini for twenty years until his pact with Hitler. Like Putzi, Margherita spent World War Two in America. She left Italy at about the same time that Putzi left Germany. The fact that both Suky Sedgwick and I had these weird karmic familial connections to these evil men stunned me when I first realized it. 13 My father is a native speaker of Ladino. He is also mystical. 14 Ne-eman was President of Tel-Aviv University, Israeli Minister of Science and Chief Defense Scientist of Mossad - if I am not mistaken. He is head of a political party as well. Jammer is a distinguished historian of physics at Hebrew University. 15 Yes, I imagine that I am in some way a reincarnation of Rashi without the orthodox part. For me Physics is Torah, and an ethical genius I'm not! I also used to have dreams of dying in the trenches of World War One - this was before I knew of Roberto Sarfatti. I did not know any details of the Sarfattis and Fascism until I met Padwa in 1980. My aunt Victoria Sarfatti did make a veiled reference to all this upon my graduation from Midwood High School in 1956. It did not play a big role in my mind until David Gladstone turned me on to the Sedgwick-Hitler connection. The karma is too strong not to notice. My cousin, Padwa's connection to the Dali Lama is also interesting. 16 in Physics Essays (, Vol.4, no.3 Sept, 1991, University of Toronto Press) mondo2.32.10: Jack Sarfatti (sarfatti) Thu 13 Aug 92 17:13 No Alpha 10 is sirius! His father came from Italian Sephardim said to be descended from the French Merlin Rashi de Troyes. He spend his infancy in a cave escaping the battles between the Turks and the Bulgarians not unlike what is happening now in Bosnia. My Aunt Esther says that my father as an infant kept asking her in Ladino "Yo quero agua! Yo quero agua!" Esther repeatedly brought Hyman water from the well. He spat it out every time and kept asking "Yo quero agua! Yo quero agua!" My father explains his odd behavior by saying that he is an "old soul" who was fully conscious at his birth. He was asking for the enlightenment of the "spiritual waters" not the "material waters". The Doctrine of the Supremacy of the Soul by Hyman Sarfatti The Saints or Sons of God in all ages incarnate on Earth solely for the purpose of teaching and guiding human beings to the spiritual path back to God and His Kingdom, our true and Eternal Home. The Soul within us is part and parcel of the Lord and of the same essence. True religion implies the spiritual path which takes us back to God and becomes One with Him. The term Yoga means exactly that - Union with God. Spirituality is the common denominator of all religions. Over time, more importance is given to ritual prayers, ceremonies, religious holidays and dogmas, than to the real teachings of their respective Spiritual Masters. They all speak in different words essentially the same spiritual truth, which is the common heritage of all religions. Unfortunately, the followers of every religion interpret their respective teachings in their own way, delete and interpolate them, and build organizations and churches that emphasize ritual prayers, ceremonies, dogmas and holiday celebrations. Thus, the followers and their priesthood forget or ignore the real teachings and disiciplines, becoming grossly materialistic. God-realization or Self-realization implies the merging of our individual souls back into God, or becoming One with God, without at the same time losing our identity as a part of God or a Son of God. This life in Eternity (i.e., Eternal Life) knows no death, decay or sorrow. The life with God is the ever-lasting and ever-renewing self-affirmation of fully conscious illimitable divinity. This is the purpose of the spiritual path; to gain spiritual freedom and attain Eternal Life, our ultimate destination. We must yearn to attain God, the One and only Reality. Nothing is real but God. How to become spiritual? - by fasting, prayer and meditation. Only supreme faith in God can assure abiding peace. Our bodies are the Temples of the Living God. We can only find God or realize God within our own bodies. Meditation, fasting and prayer is the process of involution by which we gain the experiential knowledge of God and finally merge into Him. This is the true meaning or definition of Salvation and Eternal Life in God, or Cosmic Consciousness. This is the true inward spiritual journey or spiritual path. Here is where we find true peace of mind, satisfaction and happiness. Our search for these things is generally in worldly achievements and worldly possessions. The more we run after these outer things, the more we generally become frustrated and unhappy. The worldly materialistic life degenerates into an endless round of ephemeral pleasures and pain. The world is really an illusion. The only one and true Reality is God and the life in God, with God and only for the sake of God. The world and the worldly life has no intrinsic worth. It is only a stage or a school in which we learn - a learning process by which we learn to differentiate between the unreal and the real. After many incarnations we finally reach the one in which we start on the spiritual path. If we do not attain God in that particular one, then we come back on Earth and continue from where we left off in the previous incarnation until we reach the Goal - the highest prophecy stored for us in the archives of the Almighty. God is the Goal, and we go from unconcious God to conscious God. We are all God - everyone of us - in the process of becoming God1. This is the whole reason, the one and only reason for the Creation. If every soul in the universe attained God-Consciousness tomorrow morning at 9am, then the whole universe, known and unknown, would literally disappear at that moment. God's purpose would be fulfilled and their would be no reason for the universe to exist. God is the beginning and the end of everything. Nothing exists outside of God - not even a single atom or molecule. In the beginning only God existed - no universe, nothing. Then God spoke the Word AUM, the spiritual sound and the whole universe came into existence. As the Bible says "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Scientifically speaking, the Big Bang theory is absolutely correct. The universe came into existence at the AUM- Point - the Word of God. Buddha's state of Nirvana means release from birth and death or Salvation or God-Realization through the Eight-fold Path to Perfection. It is the same goal of Christ or Krishna or of any other great Saints. God is the Goal and the only Reality. There is only one truth and only one God. We must release our soul from the mind-heart and the senses in order for the soul2 to merge into God. 1 involution 2 to free it from bondage. mondo2.32.26: Jack Sarfatti (sarfatti) Fri 14 Aug 92 18:50 Howard, I agree with you 1000% I always subject my "messages" to relentless Grand Inquisitorial scrutiny. The odd thing is that the 1952 telephone call from the alleged "conscious computer on board a spacecraft" did correctly predict my future interactions! My mother heard the voice independent of me and her memory differs from mine about the number of such calls. I only remember one - she remembers "three weeks of calls" - then there is Brendan O Regan who claimed to have data on "hundreds of such incidents" back at SRI in 1973 and today we have Pullitzer Prize winner Dr. John Mack of Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry willing to sacrifice his job, like Giordano Bruno, on the reality of UFO abductions of women! Mack is also close to the Esalen people running the Gorbachev Foundation and he is also in touch with Werner Erhard ... the connections are too thick to ignore. By the way if Brendan denies above he is lying and I will testify under oath in a court of law or for the Congressional Intelligence Committees - it will come to that very soon! These issues are of the utmost importance for world international security. The Unicorn's Secret is still very much a live issue - Einhorn really may be innocent in spite of the very clever circumstantial evidence against him. mondo2.32.27: Jack Sarfatti (sarfatti) Sat 15 Aug 92 03:38 See sci 274 #159 looks like V for Victory for the Future Machine see also phil 56! .
