2/5/1994 Uncle River, a friend of mine, is devoting the 13th issue of his magazine _XIZQUIL_ to the ideas associated with the number 13 as a symbol of the Unknown, of the darkness we pass through on the way to the light. If you do poetry of prose, you may wish to send him an SASE and ask for guidelines of #13. His address is _XIZQUIL_ / Uncle River/ POB 285/ Reserve, New Mexico 87830. I am sending him the item below, and I thought some of you might enjoy it as well. (c) Copyright 1994 Don Webb. Liber XIII by Don Webb I. In the Beginning there was the One, the Mind, who existed without Thought. He existed in perfect Darkness. II. His first thought Came Into Being, and he loved her and she him with a Love that all other loves, are but a shadow of. Great was their joy and loveplay. With the coming of love, Light replaced the Darkness, and at the center of all great lights is a core of absolute darkness. III. With each love act between the Mind and His Thought, they brought a new Aion into being born of their sighs at the end of play, each Aion was less perfect than the last, but in their joy they knew not that they have conceived multiplicity upon multiplicity. Till eventually the Earth came into being covered in shinning water. IV. One day Thought looked away from Mind, and saw her reflection in the shinning water far below and ever curious reached out for it, and fell into the Aions. As she fell from Aion to Aion, the Archons, the Cruel rulers of the Aions each possessed her in the most terrible way, and from these unions were all beings born each in its sphere. When each Archon had satisfied its cruel lust, it passed Thought downward to its next brother. Thus all the spheres are filled with creatures born of rage and suffering, and apt to perpetuate rage and suffering. V. Thus Thought fell to Earth. She is our Mother, called Sophia, for honey drips from her wise lips. Yet she hides herself from us in memory of her fear of the Archons. Thus wisdom is found in the darkest and most obscure places, and often we know her not save by memory. Yet when she is with us our merest breaths can change the Cosmos. When we aid in the Quest of the One for her, but of that little must be said, for we must not let the Archons know of the ways of His quest. Thus we are commnaded to be silent in the deepest spiritual matters of our hearts, speaking only in parables and enigmas. VI. There are thoughts of men not enlivened by the burning need to know which our Mother has bequeathed to us, and these are the dead thoughts, and the soul killing thoughts and the thoughts which lead only to confusion. Beware of those who have learned the science of the Archons and make their thoughts seem to be of the Spirit. Real teachers are rare, and you may know them if their teaching is practical and allows you to do things in the world. If you can bring about Art nor magic nor Science from their teachings silently leave them. VII. Of late our Mother has shown herself in the most unlikely places. She is freer in times of deception, for the crowds always point to the false ones, and the Archons in their ignorance storm at these images and shadows. Do not be fooled by the masses, nor assume that merely because one is persecuted that they are of Sophia. VIII. If you would draw our Mother to you, you must first know her daughters Necessity and Charity, whom the Greeks call Ananke and Charis. Make things hard on the worthy, that they may test themselves, and secretly aid the Seeker that he or she may gain comfort in the night of despair. Do these things and know that if you do them with a fully conscious mind, they will be done to you. Eventually these daughters will live in your house and prepare the way for the coming of our Mother. For this is that eight Secret given to me by Abarris when I dwelt in the land of eternal day: that if you change the world within the world without will change in proportion to your passion and precision. In this Secret lies danger and glory and it is this Secret the Archons hate and their tools the gray men seek to destroy. IX. This is the ninth Secret, that Mind gave Thought a gift on their wedding night, a burning desire to know, and this with this gift she brought all world into being, and she has bequeathed this gift to her children that thy may too come into being. Always fan the fires of wonder and curiosity, especially in the young, for there are those who would take away this gift. I further Secret I tell you, you know that the first gift was the desire to know, but there will be last gift as well, which will be given on the reunion of Mind and Thought. But the nature of this gift can be spoken in the tongues of today. X. Arise thus in glory and proclaim the genius of your Creation. For you the children of Mind and Thought enter into a Temple of Perfection when the ways of the world are seen as echoes of love play. Being true to yourselves; although men shall call you evil, you carry along the gift of seeking that has brought to your eyes beauty in perfection, and has lead you beyond the darkest and most trying gates to the gate of the night sky, wherein you are reminded of your true nature. XI. Knowing who you are will fill you with both a happiness and a sadness beyond bearing. At times all men will seem your brothers and you will rejoice. At times all men will seem sleeping, and you will rage. Know that neither is true, nor will either state last long enough to base your plans upon it. Do not let yourself be turned by the tides, but steer your boat only by your quest for our Mother. She will be your ship star, never reached but always a constant beacon. XII. Never fail to hail the vessels of others, as they reappear and disappear in the mists around you. Do not be troubled if they are sailing on a different course merely wish for them in your mind, the Blessings of the Mind, the One, upon them. Deter not your journey of questing for Sophia, because of the resplendent jewels, or ease, or show of virtue of other seekers. XIII. Seek the Mysteries! .
