I have never had a problem with > one yet. I spent 4-5 days at a data-recovery company in Toronto, and I learned something: it varies over time. For instance, they would recall when they had a run on bad IBM drives, but then they petered out and they started getting loads of Fuji drives in for recovery instead. I asked about WD and they laughed and said there was ALWAYS a dumpster full of Caviar drives out back... :-) I guess HD makers have trouble maintaining consistent quality. They (whoever) will get a batch of bad drives that go out and hit the market. When the problem is identified, they fix the fault on the production line, and quality returns to normal. But in the mean time 50,000 high-risk drives are at the retailer, waiting for you to buy them.... --- þ Synchronet þ Linus is a regular at The ANJO BBS. No, Linus Brathwaite! .
