I agree with all this, but there's one more point: The "leading lady" of Star Trek was always the "Big E" herself. And of all the ships in all the Star Trek series, it's the TOS Enterprise (together with its uprated movie version) that will be the one people will always remember. The TOS bridge, the engineering deck, the hangar deck, all gave you a real feeling of practicality and vastness that you were inside a huge ship--something I never got from the tiny TNG engineering deck with its warp core looking like a double boiler with neon lights. Or the TNG bridge looking like the lobby of the Hyatt Hotel. Or the TNG hangar deck looking like a two-car garage. In the finale of ENT in the Mirror Universe, you got to see the TOS Big E's sister ship and even though it was 40 years since Jeffries designed it, it still looked beautiful.
