If you see it from the pilot, it makes a lot more sense. That episode was intended as a way to give more back story on the characters, and is by turns funny, poignant, sad... and includes a particularly brilliant performance from Nathan Fillion. Is it too much back story? I can't say for sure, I've seen 'em all and it don't bug me. If it was the only ep you'd seen... ? The movie gives you back story, kind of bends over backwards & double to catch you up with things you oughtta know, but does a good job of moving the story along. My understanding is it is a whole season's story arc compressed into what would be the length of 3 episodes. Once again, I can't say how much it would all mean to you if you'd never watched the series. I loved it, personally. .
