Trek lore does not ignore the theory of relativity.
"Warp Field Theory" goes AROUND relativity in the sense that it operates
in a realm that is considered NOT normal space-time continuum.
It envelopes a ship in a continuously operating "wormhole" concept that
is in a domain called "sub-space" where normal physical laws of THIS
universe do not apply.In the Trek novels,
(I know that some people question whether they should be considered part
of the TREK universe) relativistic effects of space travel do happen
when yo attempt to operate WHOLLY in the natural
universe.I.e,sublight.If you supersede light speed in travelling through
spacetime,you cannot operate in the normal universe,as Einstein had
postulated.
 Whether there are multi-continua in existence is and has been open for
debate of course.
Evidence of tachyonic particle traces exist,but no actual evidence in
THIS universe has proved they exist.These are so-called hypothetical
particles that supposedly exist only at faster than light speeds.If
indeed they do exist,then it would be an indication that this construct
of space-time that we live in is not the only one in existence.But as
yet,is just conjecture in the scientific community.
