You've *got* to be kidding. First of all, the episode was "Best of Both Worlds", widely regarded as the best episode of TNG, period. Second, he does it singlehandedly, with only a small suggestion from Picard as to what to do. After failing to access the critical systems, he activates the Borg's regenerative subcommand (a "low-priority" system) which causes a feedback within the Borg ship's power grid, destroying it. The Federation did nothing to help except get themselves killed in every confrontation. But, you are right about one thing, it *was* intense. .
