This could be nothing else than the primeval promise of the coming 'Seed of the Woman' (Genesis 3:15) who would defeat Satan and redeem not only the house of David but ALL mankind. Many critics have argued that the Hebrew word means simply 'young unmarried woman' rather then 'virgin' and some translations have translated it as such. But this is a device to avoid the miracle if Christ's virgin birth. The word is used SIX or more times in the Old Testament and in ALL instances the CONTEXT favors or at least does not PRECLUDE its rendering as "virgin". Conception by a "young unmarried women" would hardly be a SIGN of any thing but SIN for such events occur far to frequently. A virgin conception would require a mighty act of creation by God Himself. The quotation of this verse in the New Testament (Matthew 1:23) should remove ANY lingering doubt, for Matthew uses the GREEK word 'parthenes' which can ONLY mean"virgin" (Jeremiah 31:22). > > Let's look at Hebrew Biblical prophecy, for some of the prophetic > signs of the Messiah: > > * To bring about eternal Peace between the nations- > Isaiah 2:4; Micah4:3; Zechariah 9:9-10; > Ezekiel 39:9;Isaiah 11:6 > * To bring about an end to idolatry-- > Zechariah 13:2; Isaiah 2:18; Zephaniah 2:11 > * To make the world recognize that Gd is, indeed, Gd-- > Isaiah 11:9;40:5; Isaiah 52:1;66:23; > Jeremiah 3:17;31:34 > * to re-establish the dynasty of King David, from whom the Messiah > will be able to trace his own lineage through his own biological > father -- > Isaiah 11:1 > * To cause the Ingathering of the 12 tribes -- > Isaiah 27:12ff; 11:12; Ezekiel 37:1ff > * To rebuild the Temple -- > Micah 4:1 > * To remove famine from the earth-- > Ezekiel 37:1ff > * To make the world (or at least the carnivorous animals) into > vegetarians-- > Isaiah 11:7 > . > He didn't do ANY of all the above! > Any one of which, missing, invalidates a claim to be Messiah! > I am surprized and disturbed by your lack of understanding. These things are yet prophecy to be fullfilled by the return of Jesus to earth to establish His kingdom. It only leads me to believe that you are not a believe in Jesus Christ and are still lost your sins.
