Subj : Is Jesus the Messiah? To : George Pope From : Newborn Date : Thu Oct 13 2005 21:42:00 The surest proof that Jesus is the Messiah is the propecies of the Jewish Bible concernning the Messiah. The following texts have been recognized as Messianic prophecy by the rabbis and sages of old. Genesis 49:10 "The sceptre shall not depart form Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until he comes to Shiloh; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be." The Messiah was to come from the tribe of Judah - Jesus Did (Heb 7:14) Isaiah 9:6,7 "Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon the kingdom. to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. The Lord sent a word unto Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel," The Messiah was to be a descendant of David - Jesus was! (Luke 1:32,33) Isaiah 7:14 "Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign: behold, the young woman shall conceive, and bear a SON, and shall call his name Emmanual." The Messiah was to be born of a virgin. (The Hebrew word for "young woman" is 'alam'. In each of its seven uses in the Tenach, it means 'virgin'.) - Jesus was! (Matt. 1:14-25) Micah 5:1 "But thou, Beth-lehem Ephrathah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall one come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Isreal; whose going forth are from everlasting." The Messiah was to be born in Bethlehem Ephrathah - Jesus was! (Matt 2:1-6) Psalm 2:7 "I will tell of the decree; The Lord said unto me: 'Thou art MY SON, This say have I begotten thee." And after the threescore and two weeks shall an anointed one be cut off, and be no more; and the people of a prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; but his end shall be with a flood; and unto the end of the war desolations are determined." The Messiah was to cone and be "cut-off" (die a violent death) in approximately 32 C.E. (The date has been computed by taking the time of Artaxerxes decree in 444 B.C.E. which gave the Jews permission to rebuild Jerusalem (Neh. 2:7,8). and adding the 476 years noted in Daniel) - Jesus did! (Luke 2,3:33) Isaiah 53.8 "He was taken away from rule and from judgment; and his life who shall recount? For he was cut off of the land of the living; though the trangressions of my people was he stricken." The Messiah would die for OUR sins - Jesus did! (II Cor. 5:21) Psalm 22:14-17 "They open wide their mouth against me. As a ravening and roaring lion. I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; My heart is become like wax; It is melted in mine inmust parts. My strength is dried up like a potshed; And my tongue cleaveth to my throat; And Thou layest me in the dust of death. For dogs have encompassed me; A company of evil-doers have inclosed me; Like a lion, they are at my hands and my feet." The Messiah would die by Crucifixion (This form of execution was not known to David writing 800 YEARS EARLIER) - Jesus did! (Luke 23:33) Psalm 16:10 "For Thou wilt not abandon my soul to the nether-world; Neither will Thou suffer Thy Godly one to see the pit." The Messiah would be resurrected - Jesus was!
