Why? because when the rabbis brought Jesus before Pilate the morning of His crucifixion, "they themselves went not into the judgement hall, lest they should be defiled, but that they might eat the Passover" (John 18:20). This was the morning after the Last Supper, but the rabbis hadn't YET eaten the Passover-and neither had Jesus OR His disciples for that matter. The Passover meal was to be celebrated the NEXT night which turned out to be the nigh The Lord's word's were more than a new interpretation; they were the institution of the New Covenant established by God Himself. - "And He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, 'Drink ye all of it: For this is MY BLOOD of the NEW TERSTAMENT which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
