The problem many people, including me, are having with the pres and his peeps is that they are only responding NOW! Every climatologist, geologist, environmental planner and TV weatherman knew this was coming 5 DAYS before it hit and absolutely nothing was done to prepare. THAT is why FEMA should not have been gutted the way it was. Far from learning from this mistake, however, the wingers are claiming this as further proof that FEMA doesn't work. Guess what, my car wouldn't work either if you took the wheels off! The Bush administration has once again displayed complete disregard for the researched conclusions of actual scientists. Then your boy has the RAW NERVE to come out and say "No one anticipated the breaching if the levees." I think what "W" meant to say was "No one listened." Yes, the army does a better job of responding quickly in a crises, that's their job, and they are damn good at it. What they DON"T DO and SHOULD NOT DO is disaster preparedness planning. That is and MUST remain a civil responsibility. The Army and Red Cross could not have possible moved any faster then they did once they were given the go ahead. The problem is that they should have been given to go ahead two days prior to the storm hitting. Trucks could have been loaded, supplies ordered. Materials moved from other states, all the prep work could have been done so all they folk on the ground had to do was start the trucks and move Tuesday morning. But thank god, at least Trent Lott's beach house will be rebuilt even better then it was. I guess they were prepared for THAT! .
