I finally found a news story on this.  They've upgraded from school
busses to Trailways busses.  They're making room for up to 1500 people
in Lansing, and collected non-perishable donations for the past few
days.  They'll use the busses to take the stuff down, then load up with
people for the ride back.

At least they were able to get a local bus company to donate some
decent transportation...
