It may have been the grammar/vocabulary that threw people off. Whedon created a Western futuristic lingo (some combo of old West/country hick with new terms that you have to decipher from context). With the DVD's, I turn on subtitles to catch the word creations. When Americans have trouble with British accents in the movies, it usually isn't the pronunciation (except for some Scottish accents). When I finally see the text, I usually find words we'd never use in that fashion - an unfamiliar idiom or cricket reference, etc. The baddie was an English accent though, thanks to > > >> the Hollywood rule that baddies are always foreign to make them appear > > >> more sinister to a xenophobic small-town American audience. We in the Northeast have fewer guns, yet we're notorious for our lack of smiles, eye contact, and "hellos" compared to our Southern and Western counterparts. Although we think we're very nice if you get to know us. :) - TNW [To e-mail me, remove 12345 from my address.] .
