Hence the "only other president" bit and he stayed in office like Johnson. I thought that the charges against Clinton were both criminal and brought upon by actions of the opposition party. Ok for example, Sir Robert Peel repealed the corn laws limiting the importation of cheap foreign grain. This was a massively unpopular move amongst his own party, most of whom were land owners. When Peel suggested this to his cabinet several members of his Tory cabinet resigned, forcing him to also resign. The opposition whigs refused to form a government, (could you imagine that happening now?) so Peel was again prime minister. On the same night that the bill was debated there was a bill which gave him more power to deal with the irish potato famine. Disraeli took the opportunity for revenge and along with about 70 odd other conservative MP's voted against the bill for no other reason than to force Peel to resign. A revolt by members of his own party causing him to lose his position. This by the way isn't the only example of this happening in British politics, its just the best known. The conservatives are well known for there political infiting within the party. Ted -- Stare too long into the abyss and the abyss looks like a nifty place to hide the bodies .
