I really would think that it would *have* to stand alone to be worthy of
having been made on such a scale. The show's incredibly short run probably
made that a fairly easy thing to accomplish.

I think PKWs tried to stand on its own, but the intense history of the
series clashed with that goal and prevented it from happening. But they tied
so much up in the mini (like, basically *everything*) that rejiggering the
concept for a feature would be akin to what went into developing the early
"Trek" movies (granted, ST wasn't at all continuity-laden).
