They want $50 bucks for another 256MB of ram so I figure I can buy a 512 stick for that much. > The HP Compaq V2000 right off their website is cheaper... add the > wireless, bump the CPU up to the 1.4 if you want to, wife won't > probably notice the difference between 1.3 and 1.4, take the free > screen upgrade, take the CD burner if you want it, I'd probably keep > the standard system and get the RAM upgrade, nobody I know likes > Windows XP and any apps with just 256 MB. > > http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/cto/computer_customize_comp > onents.do > >> Are HP laptops any good? > > I always bought Dell Toshiba or IBM when I could, but of those three > Dell is the only one that doesn't charge a premium for their gear. I have seen heard good things about people with Toshibas. I just don't get the Thinkpad thing. I see refurb P3 900mhz thinkpads for $400. Yes, that is the part of her laptop that broke but neither battery will hold a charge any longer either and the comp itself is only a pentium 233 so I don't really want to spend money on it. .
