Over the weekend I saw History of Violence, Land of the Dead, Revolver and Must Love Dogs. I really liked History of Violence, despite mixed reviews. Good performances, with some very good, albeit wince-worthy, fight scenes. And nudity and sex scenes ! THe sex scenes were surprisingly explicit - I don't know if they were taking advantage of relaxed laws regarding content in the US (I know in the UK you can now show actual sex in a 18 rated film) or if the film-makers just make a film that kids were definitely not meant to see. Land of the Dead was pretty crap - Romero broke the classic rule of never humanising the baddie, a la Terminator, the Borg in Trek, etc. By making them more human, they just weren't scary (and there were a lot of annoyingly stupid characters - such as one guy who wears headphones while on lookout - not something you'd reasonably do in a town of zombies, you'd have though). Revolver was good - I think. Extremely stylized, andf very strange in places. Sort of an existential ganger film. Must Love Dogs was pretty good - John Cusack in good form in a classin, old school, romantic comedy. -- Bunnies aren't just cute like everybody supposes ! They got them hoppy legs and twitchy little noses ! And what's with all the carrots ? What do they need such good eyesight for anyway ? Bunnies ! Bunnies ! It must be BUNNIES ! .
