Better to say standard military with a nutjob in command. As for the "fascist" comment, yea, that's kinda accurate. > Galactica became the nucleous of a city state where the military serves a > primary function of protecting the population, but under a unique > military/civilian partnership where the military seems to act independently > of the civilian government. BSG suffers from the "expediant plot contrivance" syndrome where the so-called President has little say over the military (unlike US Presidents who are also Commaders-In-Chief) this time out, but I get the feeling that somewhere down the line, the President will get to make more military decisions if the plot of the episode requires it. I can see someone looking over their version of the Constitution and saying, "Hey madam President, you can fire Cain!" > At the end of 210, Adama seems to be on the verge of realizing his mistake > in assuming that old order still holds and that Admiral Cain is his > legitimate superior officer.) Anyhoo, boredom caused me to watch last friday's season ender and I had a hard time getting past Ensign Ro....sorry, Michele Forbes' wig (dear Lord I hope that hairy thing sitting on her head was a wig). She tried reeeeeeeally hard to act underneath it, but with all that hair in the way..... I guess this is the "dark side" remake of the original BSG series two-episode jaunt with Lloyd Bridges as "Cain". Ah, the good ol' days of bad scripts, poor special effects (the Apollo second stage booster footage passing as a "missle launch"), and Bridges' turn as a would-be Patton complete with a riding crop (as if we needed another clue to his personality). Yet, it was a fun two-episodes full of 'citement 'n 'splosions. I guess we're too "sophisticated" to enjoy that in these times. Anyway, I'll give this new series credit for misleading me into thinking that the mini-plot about the mysterious, yet apparently enormous Cylon ship was going to play a significant role in this episode (I guess they're saving it up for next time). Or just how the Pegusus apparently avoided the Cylon electronic pulse which disabled all functions on all Colonial spacecraft during the initial attack on the Colonies (unless we're suppose to believe that the Cylons didn't bother to use the pulse first, before launching nukes, which would be counter to what they apparently did everywhere else). Or just how dumb her 'n her crew are with Cylon prisoners. After all, if beating, torturing, 'n raping their Cylon prisoner didn't work, why try it on Boomer? Especially after letting Dr. Bashier...excuse me, Dr. Baltar try his "nice nice" methods on the first prisoner. But, I guess I expect too much. Ken - who likes the CGI work, even if it's hard to see with all the zooms in and out. Oh, I guess I should stop watching BSG again....well, maybe when "Monk" comes back... .
