With Tivo Desktop 2.2 they've just made me so happy I don't know what to do 
with myself...

My desktop machine now shows up as a Tivo in Now Playing and I can access 
any of the 175 GB of shows contained therein...

The stuff from the desktop doesn't show up in Groups though, creating 
folders manually just hides shows from View
