I believe this entire topic has been debated here before and I don't believe
there any answers.

My take on it? A botched/dropped plot line/point due to overlooked/lazy
script editing/writing.

Either that or Trafford had some wild theory that maybe made some sense. I
can't recall.

The big push leading up to the end of S4 was full of this kind of stuff and
IMHO was the only time during the series they got bogged down in true style
over substance.

If Tom were here he would, of course, argue that this type of FS started
somewhere around the middle of S2, and I, of course, would argue back.
