Although he's best known for "West Side Story", he's pretty important
to the sci-fi genre with "The Day The Earth Stood Still".

I will remember him for "Star Trek: The Motion Picture". Plagued by a
poor script & truncated post-production scheduel, Wise somehow got this
mediocre film out on time.  20 years later, Paramount gave him the time
'n money to actually finish it the way he wanted...or course, it didn't
really improve the picture any, but I gotta give the old man credit for
trying.
