 Strangely enough I was thinking of a magna ballista as well. Hmm if it 
was at Pompei you could have a magna magma ballista.

 The guy who did the fight scenes held a boot camp for the extras, a load 
dropped out. They slept together,(I mean in communally in a tent not 
together, although actors and roman soldiers.. so maybe I was correct,) 
and weren't allowed things like mobile phones.
