I've tried really hard to avoid criticising GWB for his part in the New 
Orleans situation. It would have felt like using a terrible tragedy for 
political ends. More than a little grubby. But this afternoon I heard a clip 
from his speech. The part where he was equating this with the equally 
horrible but entirely different 9/11 attacks.

I have to say I'm shocked. Not by the self-serving spinning - I've come to 
expect that from politicians on either side of the political divide and the 
Atlantic.  In fact I'm finding it hard to put into words just why I find 
this so distasteful. But to me it feels like an abuse of all the victims of 
both events. I felt dirty just listening to it.

Of course, I'm always a bit more emotional when I've had a few beers.
