If by sword you mean Qualta blade, In seasons 1 and 2 I would reach up 
towards my right shoulder, then the editors would cut the scene, a prop 
manager would remove the sword from the backstrap and hand it to me, then 
I'd have the sword in the next scene.

D'Argo could not actually retrieve his sword onscreen until he got a 
revised costume...
