In my Federal firearms class, I was VERY surprised to find out the way 
they uncocked their revolvers was to use the webbing of the hand to block 
the hammer... because most people just use thumb release, well apparently 
that is not as safe as pinching your off-hand in a vise.

My instructor also knocked a two handed weaver stance, for side profile 
single hand grip shooting. I was kinda surprised.

Akijitsu, painful holds and locks? There are a lot of techniques used by 
MPs to gain control of people that have various amounts of hand to hand 
combat training and intoxication...

My favorite is a simple wrist lock the levers the palm of someone's hand 
and creates pain in the wrist by pulling tendons, it takes surprisingly 
little force, and only leaves the victim a little sore when released.
