I always used to play merry help up when I was teaching when I saw a beginner pick up a bokken,(wooden sword for anybody who didn't know,) picking it up by what was supposed to be the blade. My arguement with them was that eventually they would be using a live blade, at which point the habit of grabbing the blade with your fingers curled around the edge will come back to haunt you. Jess knows that daddies tools are sharp, very sharp and she knows why I keep them that way.She also knows that my swords and knives are tools nothing more and nothing less. We both know that 99.9% of the stuff taught in womans selfdefence classes is utter crap. Claire is 5'8" and weighs about 9 stone, no empty hand skill in the world is going help her against somebody the size of somebody like me, I can pick her up with one hand. A weapon is the best way for her to go. Ted -- Stare too long into the abyss and the abyss looks like a nifty place to hide the bodies .
