I'm not sure when the game is set but I should imagine that by Shogun they mean, Tokugawa Ieyasu and the period around Sekigahara in 1600. The problem is that samurai tactics have changed so much over the years as they changed tactics to deal with new technologies and situations. As a starter I would suggest Steven Turnbull's "the samurai a military history" he knows his stuff is a decent writer and it should be fairly easily available. There is an exhibition at the royal armouries museum in Leeds of rare Tokugawa Ieyasu stuff at the moment, loaned to us by the Japanese government. I would love to go but the distance and price make it a no go I'm afraid. Ted -- Stare too long into the abyss and the abyss looks like a nifty place to hide the bodies .
