(You're talking about a 2-D handle body...a closed surface in R^3 with, for lack of a better term, handles. If you have n handles, the surface has genus n. Cool fact: take any tiling of one of these things with polygons, the number of faces(F), edges(E) and vertices(V) is related by V - E + F = X(g), where X is supposed to be the Greek letter chi and represents the Euler characteristic of the surface. This is related to the genus, number of handles, by X(g) = 2 - 2*g. If you try it on a sphere, which has 0 handles, you end up with the classic polyhedral formula.) ((I need to shut up now.)) -- Jim .
