     To be strictly accurate, Abby was quoting 'this friend of hers'
when she was explaining the second date rule to Susan.  She never said
that SHE followed it. (And it was something like "This friend of mine
has a rule that you should always sleep with a guy by (on?) the second
date, because you shouldn't waste your time with someone you don't have
any chemistry with.) She WAS surprised that Susan and Carter had been
dating for 'a couple of months' without consumating it, but that's a
far cry from being surprised that they hadn't slept together by the
second date.
