Tom Cruise -- supposedly because of his affiliation with his "cult" -- claims that there is no such thing as "postpartum depression." He stood up on a couch on television and yelled about it -- made a total a**hole of himself -- and definitely influenced many viewers' opinions of the man. He has even blatantly said that Brooke Shields -- who suffered postpartum depression after the birth of her child and wrote a book about it, and has decided to take on Cruise in the media -- didn't know what she was talking about and she was just faking it, since there is no such thing as depression, anyway. The man doesn't believe in any mental illnesses basically, but has targeted depression, and specifically postpartum depression....thus the story of the woman being afraid to admit she was experiencing feelings of extreme sadness and pain over the new baby.
