STAMOS TO CHECK IN AND THEN CHECK OUT OF 'ER': If they can't have him for a 
full season, "ER" will settle for two episodes' worth of John Stamos. He was 
the heir apparent to Noah Wyle until ABC surprisingly renewed "Jake in 
Progress." So until his sitcom returns in January, Stamos will appear as a 
flirtatious paramedic who also is a medical student and a veteran of the 
first Gulf War.
