Yes, modeling the milestone helps, but healthy > children walk with age, not teaching. Modeling is required, not just helpful. If a child never sees someone walk (for example a child raised with a pack of dogs will walk on fours) they will not walk until they are shown. Right. But it's hard to imagine a situation in any real society where children do not experience these things modeled for them. Children see 'adult eating' modeled. They witness parents/siblings eating all the time. (And sometimes they take the plunge before the parents are ready. Very often a mother will post on the parenting groups that she wanted to wait until 6 months to start solids (that's the current AAP recommendation), but the baby grabbed something off the parent's plate and ate it before mom ever had a chance to introduce the first jar of Gerbers. Anyway, I hope no one takes offense to what I say in my posts because the majority of it sounds more harsh and close minded than intended. For me, debating and discussing topics is one of my favorite things to do (though it often drives my friends, family and people online nuts). I'm not offended. I just hope you're willing to listen and learn. (Many non-parents know little about parenting.) Naomi .
