I'm not a doctor, but I hope to one day play one on TV, since ER will apparently hire literally anybody to play a doctor these days (q.v. Leguizamo). So take this for what its worth, no warranty, and you do it at your own risk: Is your mouth dry because you're mouth-breathing? In the winter time, my nose tends to clog up with bloody boogers when I'm sleeping (yeah, lovely, I know) and I end up mouth-breathing, which of course will dry the mouth. I found the solution to this problem on the "Internet" (I hadn't heard of it either, but I guess it's something they have on computers now). Before bed, blow your nose, take a Q-tip, put a gob of Neosporin on it, and smear it around the inside of your nasal passages. You'll nose-breathe as the good Lord intended all night. I know, I know, it sounds crazy and yucky, but it works awesomely for me. I was expecting it to sting or burn, but it doesn't. The worst side effect is that it feels like you have neosporin in your nose; believe me, it's a fair trade. Just be careful; I don't know what you might damage up in there, but don't be pushing real hard regardless. Once or twice I've been a bit too aggressive and hit an extra-sensitive spot, and boy does that shake out the ol' CNS! > Someone wrote to a medical column about sticking a Tic Tac between cheek > and gum. That sounds like a good way to choke to death in your sleep. And/or a good ER episode (which will of course never get written)! .
