Another help (with csh anyways, not sure about bash) is the cd search path
(cdpath) you add stuff to your cdpath... for example, I added /synchronet/sbbs
(where my BBS lives) to my cdpath so now, in any directory without an exec dir
for example I can do "cd exec" and end up in /synchronet/sbbs/exec

Also, (again, can't speak for bash) I can do this:
set mypath /usr/local/etc/rc.d
cd mypath

No need to explicitly say it's a variable etc.  This search happens after the
cdpatgh expansion.

And one last thing that is mighty nice is the command ``cd -'' takes you to the
previous working directory.
