I'm curious about what Win 95 and up (esp. XP) does with TSR programs.

If started up in a command-prompt or DOS window, do they go away as soon
as the window is closed, or do they remain available?

Do they screw up the system?

I've never been a great fan of these programs, and Windows has made many of
them obsolete.  Maybe the best answer is "Try it and see what happens", but
I'm afraid of doing some kind of damage.  If someone knows a simple answer or
can give a guideline or two, it would be good to know.  Once in awhile, one
comes across a TSR that still looks useful.
