Unfortunately the police do not have the power to inforce the evacuation. The governor CAN require the evaculation, but, he doesn't have the power to have people removed from their homes. > I was just wondering, I don't live in an area where hurricanes are a big > threat. My weather station only recorded about 1/2 inch of rain here as > Katrina went by with 20 to 30 mph wind gusts. > > We got 40-50 mph gusts and a higher tide then normal, but nothing serious this time around. Someone mentioned how Fl got help during last years Storms. Well there are homes that STILL are awaiting repair in the heaviest hit areas (4 storms aren't easy to recover from). But, then 90,000 sq. miles of damage isn't a cake walk either. I don't believe it will do any good to rebuild much of the damage from Katrina on site. Another storm will just cause the same damage. NO is built on nothing but 'silt' and no levee will change that; especially ones that are built for level 3 hurricanes. As i write this we have 3 depressions in the Atlantic and 1 in the Gulf that are forming and it's still 3+ months left in the season.
