A whole lot of the world has to spend alot of money on their energy > needs - today. Actually, I'm reminding people of some uncomfortable bits of the Real World that seem to get glossed over repeatedly. I completely agree that an alternate energy source will be needed. I welcome any alternative energy technologies which appear. I support all the current government incentives to develop and deploy them. I actually think that the US and Canadian governments are doing an excellent job in this regard. However, many people have lost touch with the fact that nobody has found this new energy technology despite decades of searching. As things currently sit, we will end up settling for a worse technology due to economic pressure (my money is on natural gas, but it could be almost anything). As things sit there, we need to keep the existing stuff going. This does mean building more refineries, drilling more wells, more pipelines, research into alternative sources for gasoline, diesel, kerosene, propane, etc. Under no circumstances should this R&D be slowed to help in the development of an alternative energy system. As I previously pointed out, BOTH lines of research must be maintained at high levels until the alternative energy folks hit on something better than oil-based tech. --- þ Synchronet þ ``Penguins make tasty snacks'' .
